All I hear ever year is we need height, we won't have success with a front court that is avg. 6'8 - 6'9.
All about perception. If the all mighty ESPN had him in their top 100 those naysayers would be drooling. They don't know jack squat about the kid, other than they are making assumptions that could be said about almost any skinny 7'1" kid.
Nitpicking but we've probably been closer to averaging 6'6.5" the last two years in our front court.
Now you are just making **** up. Link to posts saying we will not have success with a 6'8" - 6'9" frontcourt? We have had success with 6'5"-6'7" frontcourt. Injuries away from much more.
7 footers who live and die basketball in the United States struggle to make the transition to competitive DI basketball. Nobody in this thread has said he can't eventually contribute. Realistically, it would be insane to have any expectations from the start.
He is a project and that's not a diss to him or the coaching staff. I would imagine when Fred comments once his commitment is official is something along the lines of you can't doubt his potentially.

Not really. Custer is in the top-100 and many have doubts in his impact next year and think it is possible he could struggle to adjust to the Big 12 level of play.
17 year-olds that are 7'1" are often sought after, specifically scouts, due to potential rather than current ability.
He'll be nice sign when he signs the dotted line. 7 footers are hard to come by and they aren't always that great(look at Mr. Woodburry over at Eastern Iowa U).
He's young and needs some more meat on his bones. 7 footers tend to be late bloomers as well.

Hey, if it takes a year for him to adjust, so be it. Just let the kid adapt to the environment and realize that he will be practicing in one of the best facilities with awesome players! If he adapts, great, but if he doesn't, oh well! Its worth a shot especially for his height! we need someone be a great defensive player and he could be a huge factor in winning just a couple games in the dance or winning it all!

Starting with post #121. That thread was quite a bit more...positive than this one.
The point is, any freshman is going to have a learning curve going from HS to NCAA. Even Wiggins did to start out. I love his potential and his size. Some of the comments on this thread have been interesting.
not that surprised. He's a stretch 5 and Freddy likes guys that can stretch the court. This year ISU needs guys to let Niang go one on one in the post. If teams bring a double he can kick it out to him and he can go crazy from 3. I was more surprised by the Edozie commitment at the time (just because of style of play).
Quite a bit more positive? Subjective, but perhaps due to irrational and nonsensical responses, like yours, to thinking the kid will likely need time to make an impact. There has been almost zero doubt about the pick-upand certainly no nays. You should check out the first thread on Georges. You are fabricating the negativity.
Hopefully in the next couple of years this thread gets bumped to the front page when this kid is doing well. Much like the Niang thread that got bumped this year. My point is you just do not know. He could be a total beast or a total bust it's just hard to tell. I do know though that 7'1" players are hard to come by.
