Would you be mad?

If Hoiberg left for the NBA before next season? After next season?

Part of me would be mad at Fred, part of me would be happy that he's gotten to this point. I'd more be upset that this is the best track Iowa State basketball has ever been on and to have that derailed would be crushing.

The part of me that would be mad at Fred is that we gave him an opportunity that very few, if any, other places would have given him. We are set up to do some special things over the next 2-3 years and it would be tough to see him leave before any of it could be realized.

Part of me would be happy that he's pulled ISU basketball from the dumpster fire McDermott created and made us relevant again.

If Fred were to leave in 2-3 years after we've made a final four or national title run, I would feel completely different. But if we can't keep Fred here for the long-term, who can we keep?

I'm torn and it seems like Cyclone fans have a wide range of opinions on this. What's yours?

Not happening so haven't thought about it.

I wouldn't be mad at Fred. No way. How can I be mad at someone who has done so much for ISU? How can I be mad that someone we all love made a decision for personal and family reasons?

If you get mad at him if he leaves you are delusional. Sad? Yes. Mad? Heck no.

I don't think he leaves for at least 10 years (and maybe never) so I think it is a mute point.

Fred doesn't owe us anything, so there would be 0 reason to be mad.

Why would we be mad?

Does he owe us something?

Played here for 4. Coached our team to 4 pretty successful seasons. Nothing remotely approaching an even questionable moment in all that time. Outstanding ambassador for ISU.

What's there to be mad about?

If I ever hear the phrase "firmly entrenched" then things may change.

If Hoiberg leaves I think we should go after the head coach at Creighton. He's done pretty good at that program over the last four years.

Yes I would be upset. He came looking for this job, his dream job. He acts like he isn't going anywhere and is going to be here for the long run. To get up and leave after all that yes it would be disappointing. I guess I always figured Fred was the one guy that wouldn't use ISU as a stepping stone and he could build something very special here. Very few coaches get the chance to build something great in the NBA, and even after they do their job is never safe, in most cases.

But if we can't keep Fred here for the long-term, who can we keep?

I think this a big point and how I'd look at it, especially if he left in 2-3 years. Fred is our best chance at long term success and him leaving soon would sap a lot of life from the program IMO.

If he were to build the program to a consistent top 25 team over the next 7-10 years, then his leaving would sting less and I'd think the job at ISU would be attractive to the top coaching prospects out there.

Regardless I'd never been mad that he left, sad either way, but less so the longer he's here.

Not mad. I would be disappointed as hell, and will be if he ever decides to make the change, but not at Fred. I think our program will be great for as long as he stays. After that, it is a crap shoot. A longer reign certainly helps us in attracting a replacement. I'm thinking Fred and Hornacek can flip flop in about 15 years.

All I know is I'm glad Fred is not some cult leader... Because if he told all of CyclONEnation to go drink some cyanide in an act to the basketball gods we would gladly oblige. That's how much he means to ISU...

I'd be devastated if he left in the next 2 years... And would have the same feeling I have thinking about what-if Georges didn't get hurt this year...

Disappointed for the team, the program, the fans, but not mad at CFH if he makes a decision in the best interests of his family. Above all, he impresses me as a family man.

However, I'd be madder than a wet hornet if he left to replace Self.

Disappointed but happy as hell that I was around to see the success that he brought with him while here.

It would be like an Irish wake... sad to see him go but trying to focus on the fun of the last four years.

That said, there seems to be a lot keeping him here that would largely outweigh the things that pull him away. Also, 2.6 mil is a **** load of money in Ames

No, but I'd be p!ssed at you for jinxing us and giving Hoiberg the idea of leaving for the NBA!! :realmad:
