Lunar Eclipse: anyone watching?

My son and I got up at 2:30 and watched until about 3 with a spotting scope. It wasn't as red with the naked eye as I thought it would be but the pictures I took with my phone look really red. I wish I had a way to hook my camera to my scope. lunar_eclipse_4-2014.jpg

I got up at 1:50 and went outside to check it out. Went back to bed about 2:45. I'm glad I did it.

My son woke me up at 2:30. I knew better than to try to get him up but I asked my daughter if she wanted to get up. We went out and looked for a few minutes. She also saw a meteor so it was a good experience for her. Mrs. Velo seemed not at all interested in getting up for it last night when we talked but this morning she was miffed I didn't get her up. She said she had never seen a lunar eclipse. Good thing for me we might have another chance or two coming up.

Saw it also. Worth the wait.

Mars was nearby and it is close.

Woke my 8 year old up and let him watch... He was excited to tell his teacher today. Totally worth it just for that.

My wife set alarm and we got up and looked at 2:30. Pretty cool but I was dead tired so might not have appreciated it as much as I could have. Wife dug it.

Central WI had 5 inches of snow sticking to everything so it was very magical. Trees, powerlines, houses were frosted and in the eerily yellow-red glow it was nothing I've ever experienced before. Took images but my camera did not do well in the low light.
