How cold does it have to get for ISU to cancel classes?

The last time, if I remember right, was a Tuesday in February 2012, and even then it was only morning classes.

Only reason they will cancel is if buses don't run. I don't know how cold that will take, but when I was there the only reason they canceled was massive amounts of snow.

Can't remember the year (09?), but had an afternoon and the next day cancelled during finals week. I got out of 2 finals, and only had 1 legit one that semester. That was great.

Back in the day I remember walking through the Union on my half hour walk to Kildee. It was one of those cold and -0 windy days. I was a practical farm boy who put a hat on his head when it was that cold. Remember running into a less practical friend of mine who had decided to walk to class with out a hat so his hair wouldn't get messed up. Can still seem him in there blowing on his hands and putting them on his ears to thaw them out.:biglaugh::wacko:

You're in college. You can cancel your classes any day you want for any reason. Nobody will call your parents wondering where you are. Just don't do it too often.

I always liked Kelvin, but his sense of temperature was one only Kelvin could appreciate.

when i was in school it got it was somewhere between -10 and -15 with very gusty winds. wind chill got down to -40 and classes ran. i swear you could feel the liquid in your eyes start to freeze in a matter of seconds.

i wouldn't hold you breath to get out of class because of the cold. now, heavy snow on the other hand gives you a much more legit shot. if i recall, when the buses can't go, class will get canceled.

I thought snow days in HS were awesome, but they're nothing compared to the fun of a snow day in college.

One snow day in particular, Iowa State officials made the mistake of calling off the next day's classes in the afternoon, the day before. Well that's just a head start on drinking. Long story short, there was so much snow they closed Welch so they could pile it in the middle of the street, and the night ended with a snow ball fight between the east side and west side of Welch when the bars closed.

yeah I was thinking that was about as cold as it got while I was there. Said it'd take about 10 minutes for skin to freeze and I had back to back finals in that NCRIS (whatever it was) east of Kildee and then over to Design. My eyelashes started freezing together from my eyes watering. None of my finals got cancelled though. I didn't remember finals getting cancelled, but didn't we get the blizzard the first day of Dead Week though?

The wind chill has to be life-threatening for classes to be canceled. A good amount of snow or ice would help also. It's pretty rare for it to happen. Regardless, they always tell employees to come into work "if you can safely do so." Jerks. =P

I remember one time a number of years ago, they tried to be proactive and called off classes in advance of an approaching bad snowstorm. Cut to not a single flake falling from the sky. They haven't really been "proactive" since.

I'm one of those who walks through buildings to stay warm. It takes longer, but it's worth it when the wind chill dips below 0.

If you're asking, it's not cold enough yet.

The one day I remember them cancelling class for certain is a day I actually took the bus into school and heard the announcement as we pulled up to campus.

Another time, I think I remember it being like -20 once, and classes might have been cancelled, but I had to walk to Beardshear anyway to pay my Ubill.
