Translating HS stats to College stats

Wes would have had offers from Mizzou and Nebraska, but he told them his recruitment was over. There was a great deal of buzz around him after AAU ball this year.

Guys get additional or other offers after they have verbally committed all the time.

If a program really wants you they will recruit you until you have signed a LOI with a particular school (and as we have seen with A&M in FB...sometimes even after the LOI is signed)!

The fact is that he had no other offers and you can tell yourself all day long that "Wes would have had offers from Mizzou and Nebraska, but he told them his recruitment was over"...but you have no way to prove that.

This shows how limited your knowledge is. When a kid shuts down their recruiting and tells other schools such, they will back off to focus their efforts elsewhere.

As for Sed, his mom kept his recruitment open, that example is completely irrelevant.

I'm sorry, thats not true at all. There are a number of coaches that will not give up untill you sign...

It's not opinion, its fact. From someone who has gone through the recruiting process, had a brother go through the recruiting process, and a number of friends go through it. Coaches are ruthless.

Hmm, in that case, I am going to say that your fact is false. If a player firmly closes his recruitment, like Ike, most coaches will back off. I do realize there are some that will keep on, but most will back off.

I agree with this completely. My brother verbally committed to one school, and was continually still contacted from other schools. He actually ended up changing his mind, and made a great decision in doing so.

As to how long coaches will continue to recruit, I don't know, probably depends on the coach (and sport for that matter). As for #1's postion on Wes E.......at this point it has gone well beyond obsession into some weird kind of Jihad to stifle any optimism for the kid's potential. Time will tell with Wes....

Did he make it public that he was done with the recruiting process? Obviously not if he changed his mind.

Anyway, this has got way off topic. I am sure Wes was still contacted even after he shut down his recruiting. My point is that since he shut it down, he most likely wouldn't have gotten any offers, at least publicly.

So we have two people that have had FIRST HAND experience with it and you still don't think it happens? Where are your opinions coming from? Are you familiar with the way recruiting works.

This is quickly turning into the "who gives two ****s thread." Guess what - maybe Eikmer will become the best guy ever to don the Cyclone uniform. Maybe he'll just be an "also-ran." Point is we won't know until he actually gets here. Point is G-Mac has more time to study players and recruit than he did when he went after the likes of Dunson and McIntosh. Point is G-Mac obviously sees potential in him as he's going after him. He could end up being the next Heinrich and LaFrentz (?), both from small-town Iowa and ended up becoming monsters. He could also end up being the next Clayton Vette, a guy with all of the potential in the world but becomes a complete basket case. The point is we don't know what kind of a player he will be until at the very least he dons a Cyclone uniform, and likely it's going to take at least another year or two for him to develop to the Big XII talent level. So quite honestly I really don't understand why all sides are getting their panties into a twist over how good this guy is going to be or not. There's no need to completely tear this guy down and say that he's never going to amount to anything here at ISU simply because he's from small-town Nebraska because he's putting up numbers that demand respect, damn the fact of where he comes from. At the same time, there's no reason to elevate this guy to the echelons of Fred Hoiberg, Marcus Fizer, and Jamaal Tinsley and beyond as he hasn't even donned the cardinal and gold yet - he hasn't proven anything at this level yet. Both sides arguing over this issue are right and wrong at the same time. Eikmer is a guy with a lot of talent and a lot of potential, and he's coming to ISU. Nothing more, nothing less.

You basically called somebody who has first hand knowledge of the recruiting process a liar here. You might have to consider the fact that you could be *GASP!* wrong here.

Read all of the post above yours. Do I realize coaches recruit committed players? Yes. My point is to explain why Wes had no more public offers. I am sorry if I came across harshly. I am just getting tired of seeing one of our recruits being questioned constantly.

I apologized. As I read the way I worded things, yes, I was wrong. Again, I am just getting tired of the Wes bashing.

Actually, yes he did make it public. I guess I don't see why you think because you make it public, that changes everything. College sports are extremely important to universities, and are big time money makers. If you think for one second that the recruiting process is a nice/friendly competition, you are sorely mistaken. The recruiters do what they feel they have to do to get the kids they want. If you have/had been through it or knew someone who had, you would know this.

Well nobody can have a 'public' offer as that would be a clear violation. But, I'm not going to get into that anymore...

Anyways, I am skeptical of ANY recruit no matter the stars or competetion untill I see them step on the floor at Hilton or field at Jack Trice. Mainly I just like to play devils advocate to try and ground people, I'm doing you a favor. Keep your expectations low and you can only go up from there!

Agreed. My bad. Didn't mean to get snippy you with. I apologize.

As am I. I am of the opinion Wes probably redshirts his freshman year, as I am skeptical of what he will do at ISU. I do think he'll be good as an upperclassman, but it's going to take time. I just don't see the need to drag him through the mud over and over again to prove that point though.

I wonder if the best thing for this board - would be Wes deciding to go to another school.

Because I can already see it now...Wes has a good night - those that were in the "against" corner will be hounded and vice versa.

Ugh.

At some point it would be real swell if this dead horse issue would die until the kid gets on campus and plays in a game or two. Just a thought.
