Iowa State vs Illinois @ 2:00PM

She's adorable! I hope the team gets the victory for her.

I am really impressed with the picture quality on CycloneTV. In the past the picture was always fuzz, blurry or buffering. Now if the Clones can get back into the game....

Welp this was a crappy weekend for volleyball

got a loooooooooooot to work on. Some of that was really bad. There were great moments, but the passing and serve/receive (minus Nolan today, who was dead on) will be getting a lot of attention in practice this week, I bet!

that is the worst I have ever seen Cyclones volleyball play. That was not a top 25 team out there. They looked tired, uninspired. And seemed our hitters were always hitting into double and triple blocks. Either we had bad passing, or didn't mix the offense up enough, or both.

Maybe we need to hire a conditioning coach for our volleyball team.

Passing was just horrendous; bigbee and hurrt actually had a good game, but couldn't get the ball to them a lot cuz of the pass

it was bad passing. The first pass was off so many times that Hudson was hand tied on where she could go with the ball......leading to trying to hit into the block. How many times did you see Hudson try to dump it over and somebody was right there? She did it successfully a couple times, but most of them were just that she could do nothing else but dump it.

Yep, lots to work on, but some very good things on the court as well. Please note that Christy used a big chunk of her line-up while Illinois stayed with pretty much the same 8 players throughout. Both are young teams, but Illinois did not go as deep into their line-up as the Cyclones.

While most players struggled with their passing, I was impressed with Kuhrt who looked very good for a freshman, red shirt or no. Saw some good things in Vondrak's play as well, and of course, Bigbee was great. Really need to get away from service errors (dah!!); they killed us. And once again, I was underwhelmed by the play of #7. Had some good moments but not at all consistent.

I didn't watch today, but I did watch the Friday night match. Now, I am a complete volleyball novice, and do not watch a lot of women's sports, but our players just didn't look as fit as the other teams. San Diego looked trimmer, faster, and more athletic. To my novice eye our team didn't look as well conditioned as the other team. Obviously I am talking generalties, and there were individuals on both teams that were exceptions.

San Diego is one of the fastest teams in the country...just not a good match up for us this early in the season.

But today I was pretty disappointed. Just bad passing, slow to the ball, service errors, slow to get a block up.

Our back row passing HAS to improve or it will be a difficult season. We just seem tired All. The. Time.

Still plenty of good plays and hitting options but after a good tourney last weekend and 2 good first sets in CF, this weekend was pretty disappointing.

Can only go up from here! CJL WILL get the best out of her players this year and has enough depth to bench somebody with a poor additide.

I'm not an expert, but I've watched a decent amount these last few years. San Diego is an extreme case. That's about the fastest team I remember seeing. Just freakishly fast.

Here's what the VB blogger wrote about midway through the match:

The status of the Cyclones has been changing on a point-by-point basis. Sometimes they look unstoppable, other times they look like they never met each other.

Was at the game also, and that is a great way to describe it: like they never met each other. Sometimes, there seems to be little awareness of their teammates, almost no communication, just trying to do something in their own space.

Maybe that is a result of all the mistakes and having to react rather than play in system. But the chemistry is lacking. CJL has some work to do to figure who can play together.

I really, really like Vondrak. She brings energy, she talks, and she can hammer it. It was a coaching mistake to leave her off the floor most of the weekend. Plus, it seems she helped get Kuhrt more focused and animated on the court as well.

Back to the blogger... let's hope they get to know each other fast!!
