I think only our best player that week should wear a Jack Trice era jersey. Everyone else wears a normal one.

I'm going to throw this out there and if people take issue so be it

These should NOT even be considered for our regular jerseys, and there is no way they should be used for the Iowa Game every year (why would we want to tie a jersey Trice wore to a rivalry he never played in)

These should be worn and used on a very irregular basis for huge games. If these are used every game they will lose the significance of how they are tied to Jack Trice and what that story means. It would be sad to take something so awesome and make it the mundane everyday jersey that ISU wears. These jerseys should be a tradition at Iowa State that is a tribute to a great man, that are a reason to tell the story any time they come out of the tunnel. Not just another jersey.

I get what you're saying, but if that's the case, they shouldn't be used for the Iowa game. Iowa is coming off a down year. Like you said, Trice never played them (though we don't often play Minnesota or Drake anymore...), it's not on national TV, and it's already a rivalry game with a trophy-- the fans don't need any more of a reason to get up for that.

So it's kind of a rough situation either way. I am glad we are doing it, but if we should hold them sacred, at the very least, they should only be used on the game closest to the game he was mortally injured in--home or away. Or one that's on National TV, to spread the story. So if the university is going to use them for a game that is not a) near the correct date or b) on national tv/of significant importance to the program, then the sacredness is already violated--in which case, I think an annual game to honor his significance in our program and history is the next best alternative.

*edit: got comma happy.

I don't think it necessarily needs to be tied to a game close to the one he was injured in. I would just prefer it not be tied to one particular series regardless of the opponent (even if we were to play MN regularly). I'm okay with them coming out for a cy-hawk game now and then, but to do so every year would make the awesomeness and the story behind it get lost in the excitement of a game everyone already looks forward to.

Just my two cents. Thinking something similar to Notre Dame's green jerseys (only way better). Every time they come out the fanbase and players view the game as a big deal.

So we just wear them against Simpson and Minnesota?

The Iowa game IS on national tv. Just because it's not ESPN doesn't mean it's not nationally televised. There will be plenty of eyes on this game.

If they were made permanent, couldn't you argue that JT becomes a bigger part of current Iowa State? For example..

Say you're watching a game with some non-ISU, college football fans. Somebody says "wow those are sweet jerseys!". Now you have the chance to tell Jack Trice's story and more people will become aware of him. Not to mention the announcers would probably talk about it or at least mention it during most broadcasts.

You just said what so many are thinking... I don't think I'd ever play with the normal jerseys again...

I'd be perfectly fine with the normal uniforms if they used the color schemes of the throwbacks. I love the actual gold color and the shiny darker cardinal color. Our uniform scheme is fine. I just like those colors better.

Ahh, I was not aware. The only thing I would do then is to bring the #'s down a bit in the center. Some Jersey #'s cover up part of the "5" line angles at their top. I wish we could see them all clearly.

Oh well, the jersey's will work. They're cool, and it will be great recognition for Jack and the time era.

Exactly!! The "5" line angles at the top are the critical design element and focal point! Do not obscure!

That being said.....I love these unis!!! :spinny:

My thoughts exactly!

We need these as our colors. We must do whatever needs to be done to convince Pollard of this. I'm sick of looking like USC wanna be's. This would make us unique, and it would be a HUGE improvement on top of it.

I love these throwbacks. Heck, I even like the numbers on the helmets instead of our logo too.

The colors are sick and would love to see us modify our uni's next season. That said. These have an "it" factor and I would certainly be on board with keeping the style or regularly rotating it in.

Yeah, I think somewhere inbetween those would be a good call. Not bright yellow, but a little bit more vibrant. I'd like the straight JT colors better than the shades we have now though, if it was down to one or the other.

I really like the colors, and the use of the numbers on the helmets. Maybe the switch to actual gold and the helmets would be something we'd consider, and certainly doable

Hi. Captain poopie-pants here. I never gave much of a whoop-de-doo for the novelty uniform craze. Sure, it's fun, and I appreciate any attempts to honor Jack Trice but I would be happy if the whole "special jersey" silliness would go away. It is frivolous noise and has no bearing on the game. The worst part is how overdressed and pathetic a team looks after they lose the big exciting "special jersey" game after getting all amped up about the clothes. I never hear anyone say after losing one of these games, "Sure, the other team got the win, but our boys looked FABULOUS." Let's let football be football and let Liberace rest in peace.
