Wiggins to Kansas

I think if you believe in yourself, like next year's team probably will, you want to play the best. I know I would if I was playing. I hope the players are thinking: "Bring it on, KU!"

Plus, it will keep another Big XII team in the spotlight and make beating them that much sweeter. I think it is a losers mentality to hope the player goes elsewhere.

To be the best, you have to beat the best. The better KU is, the better we look when we beat them.

It reminds me a few years ago when I left the office to go tailgate before the Oklahoma State football game. My boss mocked me and wondered why I would even bother wanting to attend a game where we had no chance. I simply said, "I can't be there for the win if I'm not there at all." Or as the lottery ad says, "You have to be in it to win it."

KU is just raising the bar of how enjoyable and significant it will be when we beat them.

I don't get people who are all upset about this. To me, the allure of playing and beating Kansas is playing and beating one of the best teams in the nation. Did it feel good to finally beat Texas in football? Yes. But in the back of your mind did you not realize we were celebrating beating one of Texas's worst teams in years?

I want Kansas to be as good as possible, because we always play them well and it will be a bigger deal if we win. I don't want to beat #20 ranked Kansas, I want a shot to beat top 5 Kansas.

Not saying Wiggins will be like Selby or Xavier Henry but Dollar Bail's track record with one and dones isn't all that great. Here's to hoping Wiggins won't live up to expectations until he hits the NBA

Exactly. And when his buddies call him and ask his toughest games, we want him to say "Iowa state." That's how our name keeps spreading.

I for one don't want to just beat Kansas at Hilton. I want ISU to dethrone Kansas and to do that ISU needs to win one if not both regular season games against Kansas and get some help. Those wins and that help is harder to get if Kansas has too much talent. Nobody is really going to remember or care if the conference was "up" or "down". All they care about is having that conference championship banner hanging from the rafters - JHH Coliseum rafters.

Some say wanting KU to be weaker is small minded - I say only wanting upset wins over KU is small minded. A conference championships is the goal of each regular season.

Ye of little faith. We will be pretty damn good in 2014, and Wiggens will be a pro by then. Ever heard of Hilton Magic?

Next year IS 2014. Wiggens will be playing for KU. If he's one and done we'll have a shot in 2015. I mean, hey, I hope we beat them but it's just not a very realisitc chance next year with all of the youth. I'm still bullish on the program..I couldn't be happier just calling it like I see it.

Again, the KU fans in KC today have been annoying. Bill Self on the sports radio station down here calls Wiggins "An Alpha Dog."

Also...the sports talk guys have been giving ISU and OSU good props on teams that can still get to KU next year. Also talked about Austin from Baylor. They also mentioned that Georges Niang is going to be All-Big 12 next year... saying the Big 12 should still be a tough league.

So, they're giving ISU respect down here...I like that.

But everyone is drooling over the Wig signing with Toupee (Self) down here.

I was a ballboy for the Quad-City Thunder in their first season, when Mitchell Wiggins played for them. He was a great player, but he was also really nice to us kids. Some of the players, you could tell they couldn't stand people. Wiggins was genuine. Hopefully some of that passed down to his kid.
I like the fact he didn't have a 30 minute special on ESPN.

Kansas is going to be a top 10 team with or without Wiggins. We stood a better chance to beat them without Wiggins. Wiggins going to Kansas is not a good thing and anyone who thinks it is needs their head examined.

Good thing he will be a 1 and done.

Coach Hoiberg on Wiggins,

"He's the best high school player who has come around in a long time," Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg said Tuesday. "He's freakishly athletic and has great size and great length. He's a special player and a special talent in our conference"

"When you go against a guy compared to LeBron James, that's a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a lot of guys in our league," Hoiberg said. "The hype surrounding him is the main story. I'm sure everyone is taking note of that and the opportunity to play against him."

We all know CFH eye for talent, thus I don't think this will be an Austin or Selby type of over hype situation. Wiggins seems like a quailty kid and player. Granted I was hoping the Jayhawks wouldn't get him, but now I am excited at the opportunity to watch him play in the Big 12 and let the Clone players see how they complete. Also the OSU/KU games should be real fun. After a year where the Big 12 conference was down, seems it has just reloaded and there are many exciting games to look forward to. Bring it on.

Also random other tidbits from Katz on the impact of Wiggins.
