Bowlsby was just interviewed by Musburger and Fraschilla during TT/KU. Touted the benefits of 10 ($/school, round-robin, etc.) but said "we're mindful of the ever-changing landscape".

Guy is rock solid about staying on message...he's a PR firm's dream-come-true.

Apparently the B1G really wanted Maryland they just agreed to help Maryland with their travel to the tune on 20-30 million according to espn

They want AAU schools. They probably would like to send Nebby back to ther B12 because they are not known for kNowledge and they were demoted. Sounds like the Hoks are paying $2M to in Maryland handouts.

That just seems bizarre to me, and not sustainable. So Maryland's travel gets subsidized. Do teams like Nebraska get a partial subsidy when they travel to Maryland or Rutgers?

We've seen with TCU that a team can bail on a new conference affiliation before it ever happens. I wonder how easily a conference can bail on new additions if it finds its more desirable "fit".

Maryland AD is broke. They cannot pay the exit fee. So this is a sneaky way to pay for the exit fee and not ruffle feathers.

The Dude is claiming, without a doubt, FSU to B1G is a done deal. They've submitted an application and a 5 yr plan to gain AAU status. They have the votes. Etc.

Right or wrong, I'm a little disinterested at this point. I'm far more curious what a 5 year plan for AAU membership looks like - is there a clear path to gain membership defined by the organization? Like "Have at least X dollars in research, rank at least in the top X in these categories as ranked by Y publication, etc."? I thought it was far more subjective and somewhat political (convincing current members to vote you in.)

Seems like academics kept WVU out of the ACC and they too were going to do a 5yr AAU membership plan... Even thought only the B1G has required AAU for gaining membership (what happens after admittance can only be found at kNU.)

The "Dude" has never been right... Why bother?? He must have a radio show or podcast, that he is trying to get people to go to.... Nothing credible. Marty Terril has more credibility.

Plus... It was a done deal last week that we would be partnering with the ACC in football, wouldn't other people be reporting this also??

But....but....but.... the normal media doesn't have the "inside sources" that the Dude has.

Funny you say that, he does have a new online radio show/podcast... :jimlad:

I get mostly entertainment value out of the constant sky-is-falling angle from a lot of these bloggers/twitterers. The WVU and Texas guys are usually the most outrageous and "this is a sure thing!" guys, making it more fun. I have no idea how much is factual or based on real sources. Not that the sources are right, but even that they believe what they're passing along (or not...) The game of realignment is dirty and done in the back room. Anything we actually see seems to be for show.

I don't think it far fetched that FSU joins the B1G, but the 5 year AAU stuff is nonsense.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I've even heard/read that the AAU membership feels the need to reduce it's size. That's what caught my interest today, the talk of the plan. Is that like Sid's 5 year plan in Big Daddy?

Vanessa: He has a five year plan!
Sonny: What is it? "Don't die"???

Yeah, it doesnt work that way. you don't put together a plan and suddenly check off the boxes to get to AAU. It's not like getting a mortgage.

Hard to get kicked out from AAu, hard to get in. Not that much movement except for Nebby when they did not count research at UNMC. The govt is cutting research dollars back about 10% due to sequestration. I think FSU is applying but probably will not be AAU in the end. It is a party school.

Now MHver3 is saying FSU tried to appeal to the B1G and have been told "sorry". Lots of disagreement on info betwixt the Twitterers...

"It's only entertainment. Superficial urgency, poster board mentality..." I think Greg Graffin had it right 20+ years ago!
