No offense, but that chart looks a little sketchy to me. I don't think Ellerman missed a 21-footer in the second half.
That was the only one i could find, this one is better, though I don't know how he found it

And people wonder why we tend to shoot more free throws than we should. This is exactly why. We don't settle for the 17 foot jumper. It's either a 3 or a drive in the lane inside the paint.

But the mid-range jumper is probably the most inefficient shot in basketball. With a three pointer, if you shoot 100 2 point shots at 45%, you only get 90 points. If you shoot 100 3 pointers at 37%, you get 111 points. Note that these are our percentages. Also note that inside shots are the second most efficient, after 3 pointers, because the percentage is higher. Technically, the mid-range jumper is a higher percentage shot, but not near as efficient as close shots or 3 pointers
The first shot I scrolled over was a missed shot by Ellerman with 11:22 to play in the 2nd half. I don't know if I trust CBS right now...NCAA College Basketball GameTracker - Iowa State Cyclones vs. Oklahoma Sooners - Mar 14, 2013 - CBSSports.com Live Scores and Stats
I couldn't get the graphic to copy and paste directly but it's just a little down the page
That just illustrates what this team would be capable of if we had a guy who could consistently hit the mid-range jumper.
I don't disagree, but it would be nice to at least have that in your arsenal. I'd like to see that same graphic with misses included.
Either way, Fred is playing the moneyball of college bball right now. Playing the numbers, and that keeps us ahead of possibly more talented teams.
