CR Gazette = worthless

Newspapers as a whole are dying. Readership is down every year. I for one won't miss them in the least.

I find these threads so amusing. The Gazette is a product. The product is not giving you what you want. Don't purchase this product. Don't buy it, then ***** about what it has never done. Changes won't happen until their sales are taking a dump.

I want McDonald's to have Thai food. Maybe I should write to Oak Park and see if they'll give me an apology. Or maybe I can use find a place that already has what I want and make sure that they are successful by keeping my business with them.

Newspapers care less about how many papers they sell than they do advertisers. They live and die with advertising!

The Cyclones made the front page of the Sunday Gazette sports page with an article headlined, Aggressive Cyclones take over, followed by a sub-headline of Iowa State rallies past Oklahoma State for first 08 win.

Maybe my memory is a bit fuzzy, but didn't the win yesterday make that the 4th in January? I thought maybe the headline just got screwed up, but they also reference it being the first win of the year in the scond paragraph of the article.

Here is the headline:

Aggressive Cyclones take over
Iowa State rallies past Oklahoma State for first ’08 win

Greg McDermott didn’t know his team had it in it. Now he does.

The Iowa State coach watched his players rally from a double-digit deficit Saturday and win for the first time this year, beating Oklahoma State, 73-66, in front of an announced crowd of 13,499 at Hilton Coliseum.

Eric Petersen was the writer but his email wasn't listed....

man that is funny specially since I know their night editor looked at the results of the season last night in a e-mail I sent to him.
I sent him another message to see what he has to say. I am just happy that I am not paying for this paper lol.

if anyone is curious as to their excuse this time:

That was just sloppy and embarrassing. Reporter wrote that the team came back to win from a double-digit deficit for the first time this year. Desk editor read it wrong and wrote a bad headline.
Bottom line is we have to do better.

Got a response from JP:
Thanks Randall. You are correct - they are not telling the truth. Their beat writer assigned to the Cyclones has that information so I am not sure why this person at the paper told you they did not have it from us. We will have one of our staff follow-up with them. Thanks for sharing.

I really don't know why I have to defend my choices of reading material but here goes. The Register puts their first edition to bed about 6 PM. That's the edition that goes out to the hinterlands like Rock Rapids or Waukon or Red Oak. So when it gets here, it is not news, it's history. This edition contains less than 50%of the pages the central Iowa edition gets, yet costs 50 cents more. The Gazette is printed after 10 PM and is laying on the doorsteps at 6 AM. I have to have a daily paper, it's a part of my lifestyle. That's part of the price you pay for living out in the boondocks.
