They list the ISU game today as not being on in Eastern Iowa today. Funny, my direct tv guide and Cyclones.com both tell me that it is on, KFXA. Talk about lazy reporting.

The TV guide in the paper says it's on at 12:30 and even my Mediacom guide says it's on at 12:30, both KFXA Ch 8. I read that also, not on in Eastern Iowa. How can they miss this? What's going on here?

Not only that, but at least one radio station around CR (who probably get their information from the Gazette) also don't do their research. KHAK this morning on my way home listed Iowa's start time and channel, but said ISU no TV. Of course its Bobby Hansen, so what can you expect.

The Gazette also would do this with football, they would not keep track on if we were on tv, thus listing no tv when it was televised (this happened for the Colorado game I believe).

This is typical of the media around here, they don't care about ISU and are only hawk homers. I understand they would favor the hawks b/c of their location, but to not even do any journalistic research (all they have to do is visit the ISU athletic dept. website, the article there lists all of the tv around the state of Iowa) to get their information. It is obvious they are lazy.

But its not just sports, they have other issues also.

I worked there as a Sports Writer some years ago. The paper is a shell of what it used to be. No pretense of accuracy or objectivity anymore.

They don't even need to research it. Pretty much every media outlet in the state gets ISU's game notes, every game. Open an e-mail, open a PDF, and there it is. Tough stuff.

I thought that the game was on mediacom at 12:30, according to the Gazette.

I sent the gazette a e-mail this morning mentioning what they left out of today's paper here is the response:

Subject: the gazette apologizes

We’re extremely sorry about that omission today, Randall. Iowa State won’t provide television information any longer because it’s so hit and miss over here, KFXA usually gives us a list of their weekend listings but didn’t this week, and our syndicated television listings provider didn’t have it on its weekly listings either. Bottom line is we blew it and apologize.

Was nice that he apologized but I felt it only proper to help him out for further games my response:

I appreciate the apology, but Iowa State does put out press releases for the games usually the day before. Like this one from yesterday Cyclones Face Oklahoma State This Weekend - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - Iowa State Cyclones Sports

This tells which channels will be broadcasting the game in the state.

Also here is another link that provides TV information on the cyclones for future games:
Basketball (M) - Schedule - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - Iowa State Cyclones Sports

Mediacom Connections has picked up the games over here in eastern Iowa where KCRG had them last year. There have been 2 games this year not on TV in eastern Iowa this year so that is hardly hit and miss. If in the future you are missing this information you are welcome to send me an e-mail and I can get the channel information for you.

Thanks,
Randall

We will see what he says

I was just thinking maybe I should forward his response to JP. I imagine he would be interested in making sure that the second largest news paper in the state has information available to them for their paper.

Or it could be he was just lying to me, which is probably more likely

Quick response:
Now I really have to apologize. Our beat writer yesterday told me that Iowa State no longer told us what stations were running the games, simply listing it as Cyclone Television Network. We’ll check those releases more closely. Thanks for pointing that out.

I would send it to JP. I think the Gazette is a joke during the football season. I went to two games in IC this year and my brother always stops to get the Gazette and there would barely be a write up on ISU. Heck the Sioux City paper does a better job. Even the Ft. Dodge Messenger does.

I would love to see JP set those homers straight.

I understand they would favor the hawks b/c of their location...

Hey Central Iowans...tell us if the Des Moines media favors the Clones because of their location.

I know it's like that in Eastern Iowa...certainly don't remember it being that way in Central Iowa when I was in Ames. Pretty much reason number 1 I want Iowa to lose at everything.

The Omaha paper does good write ups on ISU during football. I cant remember , but ive read them online before.

The Gazette has gone from being a pretty good paper to about average fish wrap in the last 5 years. They do a horrible job on world news. Their MUST be a story about Hawkeye something in EVERY issue, preferably above the fold, front page. I am wondering if the decline wasn't about the same time they merged with KCRG ch 9. We get the same stories and same Hawk bias from both sources. Claire Kellet and Beth Maliki are really "neat" anchor people however. You youngsters would probably call them "hot."

That's what happens when you have a segment there that says, "Look Who's Going to Jail Now!"

When I was home over break, there was a night when all the big 4 was playing, I don't remember what day it was, but we were at home, and KHAK (98.1) said we were not even playing!

This was very disappointing because I usually enjoy listening to KHAK for country music. But they knew everyone else was playing but didn't know we were playing.

The Gazette does do a pretty good job of covering Hawkeye football. There is usually 4-5 pages of color photos of Western Michigan **** pounding the hawks.

I find these threads so amusing. The Gazette is a product. The product is not giving you what you want. Don't purchase this product. Don't buy it, then ***** about what it has never done. Changes won't happen until their sales are taking a dump.

I want McDonald's to have Thai food. Maybe I should write to Oak Park and see if they'll give me an apology. Or maybe I can use find a place that already has what I want and make sure that they are successful by keeping my business with them.

The Cyclones made the front page of the Sunday Gazette sports page with an article headlined, Aggressive Cyclones take over, followed by a sub-headline of Iowa State rallies past Oklahoma State for first 08 win.

Maybe my memory is a bit fuzzy, but didn't the win yesterday make that the 4th in January? I thought maybe the headline just got screwed up, but they also reference it being the first win of the year in the scond paragraph of the article.
