Predicting Coaching Staff

Here's both what i could see happening - and what i would like to see happening...

OC - CO-OC Mess and CO-OC Sturdy
OL - Bliel, but, if he cannot improve the line this year, i would put him on notice he gone. We've had talented enough players that by now we should have a line thats better then what they showed this year.
QB - Sturdy
RB - Pope
WR - Campbell - ex EIU WR coach, i think he would be a fabulous hire and a great recruiter!
TE - Mess

I think our offense was most efficient and productive when our tempo was faster...i think the qb is reacting more and thinking less and the implementation of a true WR coach would greatly enhance the product on the field..

I do like Campbell, great recruiter and coached Wr at michigan for 13 years before going to Iowa and coaching Mcnutt to the NFl and DJK before he began his trip to the darkside....

I truly hope that CPR is not satisfied with our offense and makes changes. If not, unlike me as a armchair quarterback, his job is on the line year in and year out....he knows his offense has to improve or ultimately he will begin to lose favor with the fan base....

It will be interesting to see how it shakes out....

Also, I am not sure what he talked to JP about but at the Baylor game he did mention to me that he is interested in working with the QB's in the offseason.

Good question. I can answer that by saying that Sage has been around some of the top minds in the business. That way it would be easier to come up with his own offense. Just my opinion though.

Coach Mess was hired to keep the offense intact. But running someone elses offense is like trying to write the last three chapters to someone's novel. You don't really know, or have the right feel for the plot.

CPR needs to meet with Mess and Sturdy and redesign the offense to what the two of them feel more comfortable with. Keep the techinal football language so players don't need to do alot of changes. You are not Tom Herman, so you need to design what you like, know, and understand, with the vision of where you're going and how to get there. Simple rule if your not doing the choosing you will be doing the losing.

Take a deep breath, step back and see the whole picture. Don't erase everything, just redirect the focus and fix what need to be fixed. Better fundamentals, more attention to detail, better line blocking, and tackle to take down not strip for turn overs.

Trust Paul, he wants to win, his future is riding on it, he is involved.

I'm not buying this running someone else's offense thing. That makes it sound like he didn't pick up the offense when Herman was coaching which he obviously did over three years. Sturdy coached in a spread before, somewhat similar to ours. We do have offensive coaches that are comfortable in this system, if they weren't then Rhoads wouldn't of hired them. Not to mention that for a coach going from system to system isn't as complicated as people make it sound. Think of a guy like Mike McCoy in Denver. Last year he practically re-wrote a playbook for Tebow and this year he did again for Manning, yet he found a way to have success with both of them.
 
Are people really against Sage coming in to coach qbs? Not saying he would but it think the qbs need a mentor with real experience and skill at this point.

I'm against him as OC. I see him more as a tight ends or receivers coach at this point in his career. In saying that I do not know how well prepared Sage would be to coach QB's. It is extremely possibly that he is way more prepared to take QB's then most players with no experience and that is something Rhoads will have to figure out, assuming Sage is indeed interviewing.
 
Late to the party on this.

Create Co-OC's with Mess moving bac to TE
Bring Todd Fitch back from USF for QB coach. (I really want a good teacher w/ OC exp. in this position)
Keep Sturdy at WR and Pass Coord.

* this won't happen but I am ready for some solid teaching at the QB position. Fitch is a good teacher of footwork and mechanics. Something missing since he left IMO. (Pederson was okay for Chiz and TH was okay as well)

Yes he has been around many of the top offensive minds in the business but NONE of them were spread offenses. Rhoads said on day 1 we were going to run the spread and he has been recruiting for players to fit the spread, so I can almost guarantee you that in year 5 of Rhoads tenure we are NOT going to change the type of offense we run.

I don't have a problem with Sage being a coach at ISU but at this point I think being the OC at ISU is over his head. Like I said above he had interest in working with the QB's last I knew so maybe he comes on as an offensive position coach or maybe he volunteers some time to work with the QB's to help them with film study or mechanics.

Out of curiosity why do you think this won't happen? Is it because it involved Co-Oc's or because you think Fitch has better offers?

I agree and it also doesn't take into account that Mess did make some changes after he took over.

I said it only because I am not aware of any relationship between Todd and CPR. They should get to know each other if they don't. Both great guys and both love ISU. Fitch never forgot how well he was treated when he was sick. He is a great teacher of the QB position.

Still, I look for a realtionship hire- no idea who that will be and it is not intended as critical.

Some random ideas just for fun

enhance the QB Coach position
Fitch
Dunbar (QB coach at NIU, not great as HC of UNI but one of the creators of one version of spread O)
Sage- could be okay IMO

Keep Mess at QB and hire only TE Coach
Barkema (CPR likes him)
Mike Woodley (offered to be on CPR's first staff here- he could not come then)

Improve OL Coaching- without firing anyone
Move BB to TE and hire Loney (won't happen)
Some other OL coach I am not aware of.

Flip the ****** and hire TE coach who can assist OL

Scott Fountain. Former TE and Tackles coach under Chizik at ISU and Director of Player Personnel under Chizik at Auburn. Thought to be the best talent evaluator on Chizik's staff.

Interesting suggestion. Fountain is currently Director of Football Operations and is trying to keep Auburn's 2013 recruiting class together. He was the OL coach for Georgia Southern before arriving in Ames.

It looks like Malzahn is going to keep him on. I don't see him leaving there for here. Could be wrong though and that would be a great hire.
 
Someone asked this before, but is Rhoads in Nashville this week?
