Maybe the ACC would add Navy to placate ND in some way? Not sure why exactly, but that is the only thing I can think of.

It could be legit. If I remember correctly, ND picked Navy as one of their guaranteed rivalry games (just like USC) when they partially joined the ACC. It could be an attempt to force ND's hand. The rest of the ACC said they'd sign the GOR if ND joined 100%.

... And Navy has an order of magnitude more tradition (and fans/TVs) than Maryland ever did.

Yeah, I mean If they are playing 6 ACC teams anyway, add Navy, then why not just join the conference. Could still schedule 4 marquee Non-con games (USC, 2 Big Ten, and one other), and roll through their conference schedule. And still have Rivals, BC, Navy, Pitt. And can keep their promise to play navy forever.

If this were to happen, the GOR + ND full, it would freeze everything in place and the Big Ten's master plan sputters out. Big 12 could actually be our current 10 teams for a long time.

If it doesn't happen, it looks like the ACC falls apart and the Big 12 goes "mega conference".

Either scenario is good from an ISU/Big 12 standpoint. Only long term negative is that Big Ten and SEC are possibly still left hungry and 10 years down the road go after Big 12 teams rather than ACC teams. With the second scenario of the ACC going into oblivion there seems to be no negative for the Big 12 especially given the cozy nature with the SEC on the Champions Bowl.

From a money standpointe, makes no sense for ND though.

The big east should now be renamed The God Bless America Conference...

But it's missing the Aggie *** jars

I always thought that was spelled with two z's. And does that start w/ a "j" or a "g"? Since it's Aggies it should probably be "g" as in gg*zz gars. It's probably just me. I could never spell **** correctly either. I always thought it started with a "k" rather than a "c". I just never get to practice writing those words much.

Deny, deny, deny, deny! I'd bet they're working multiple conferences right now - B1G, SEC, and their current home...

The SEC is an academic cesspool. No way UNC, one of the best public universities in the country, ends up there.

I wouldn't think so either, but conference re-alignment has next to nothing to do with academics - it's all about TV markets and money! I almost believe that the SEC would go after them hard to block the B1G from their territory and leave them (B1G/CIC) with less "desirable" choices. By that I mean those that fit the profile that the B1G wants: new market and strong academics. SEC only cares about markets, trying to get their network off the ground.

If I had to bet, UNC will end up in one of two places: B1G or ACC. If the ACC sees a mass exodus to the SEC/Big 12, do you think UNC would be standing there holding the remnants of a conference, to be relegated to obscurity?

Odd PR strategy; seems like releases like these only cause even more speculation and reading between the lines. It's like a tacit admission that "nothing" is actually something.

Does anyone one here monitor the Wake Forest/Boston College/Duke boards? It seems like they're the ones whose names aren't being tossed around and stand to lose big if the ACC crumbles; I imagine they feel a lot like we did during 2010-11.

UNC definitely fits the academic profile of a Big Ten school (excluding Nebraska), but I wouldn't call the SEC an academic cesspool. UF, UGA, A&M, Missery, and even Alabama are all very good public universities. And of course Vanderbilt on the private side.
