Could be but who would the Big Ten be using them as cover for?

I think they try UNC or maybe Mizzou. If they say no, then they have Rutgers ready to go in their back pocket.

If they have already said no, then they are geting Rutgers before the ACC does.

LOL, they don't. If you think for a second UNC would pick the SEC over the B10 you're crazy.

Agreed. They don't fit well in the SEC at all. I think they'd prefer to stay in the ACC so if Clemson and FSU stay and the ACC adds UConn to bring them back to even numbers they won't be going anywhere.

In Texas, politics stepped aside to let TAMU move to the SEC.

I have a feeling that if UT and OU were to make the case in their respective states that their viability depends on going to the Pac-12, politics is not going to get in the way...

True, but they have proved they are viable in the current format. And the little schools could survive if A&M left. If UT and Tech leave too, that would not be the case.

You have been preaching for years that OU and Texas will leave, but you have continuously been wrong.

Not if the SEC has anything to say about it. UNC and either UVA or VTech are the SEC's for the taking.

I dont know about that. I could see NC not caring about the SEC's football stature and going big 10 as its more academically compatible. Both will pay well.

My official preference: Big 12 holds pat at 10 teams (and changes their stupid name) for the next 10-20 years and weathers the realignment storm with our GOR, fat TV deals, and Sugar Bowl connections. Then, the "mega-conferences" decide that our model is ideal and teams start factionalizing into geographically-reasonable, rivalry-rich groups of 10. We swap WV for our old buddy Missouri, and life returns to normal.

I know we all loathe the Big Ten, but IF they ever invited ISU to join, would you want to accept?

Negative rep to any ******* who says "it will never happen".

YES! Being able to drive to road games in Lincoln/Minneapolis/Madison/Chicago is much greater then Lawrence/Manhattan/Stillwater/Norman.

The only question with UNC is how loyal are they to Duke? Not sure the Big 10 wants both, so Will they take their shot now and go to the Big 10? Or wait until later. Either way I think they go Big 10, unless big 10 gets trigger happy, and moves without them.

I don't think its just cover. I think Rutgers is only about TV sets and $$$. So there are many Ath Depts that would be a better get than Rutgers but none offers a better chance to get into the pockets of the huge population of the NYC area.

The reason UNC won't join the SEC is the same reason Texas won't ever join the SEC. They view themselves as superior institutions to most of the SEC.

I think the ACC tries to not just replace Maryland but to be the 1st conf to 16 by going after UCONN, Louisville, and another Big East school (probably Cincy). But while they do this, I bet every current ACC school is seeing what options it has for leaving the ACC for anything better ASAP.
