The popularity of having a dog surprises me. I have had 4 kids but never though that taking care of a dog would be fun. Maybe I should trade one of the kids for a dog and see if I like it more?

I feel the same way. One of my coworkers strongly advocates getting a dog to stave off your wife from wanting to have kids. Personally, I'd much rather have a kid than a dog. Sure, both are huge time and money drains which like to crap themselves in the house, but at least the kid grows up eventually. :skeptical:

I read somewhere that 42% of people without kids drive Hummers. It's a wash.
I'd go with SUV and sports cars for most of them, but still not even close to a wash compared to several kids. Even if they go home and crank the AC on a big empty house. They would probably have to go burn down a rain forest or something.

This month my wife and I are adopting our four fosters. My wife and I have been unable to conceive to this point, but my wife has a strong drive to be a parent..... Going into fostering I'm not sure we were ever necessarily considering adoption, but we fell in love with our foster children and want to give them the best chance at a happy life we can.

I'm starting to not like my kids. I'm watching them eat dinner right and I can't help get this urging feeling that they are ingrates that have done nothing to deserve the food I've provided them. Or the schools Jambalaya has given them. I don't feel manly at all anymore.

That's really cool. I am not adopted, but my sister is, so I really love it when I hear about that working out for people.

Would you feel better if you got casino-generated money to finance them?

This confuses me. I knew Jamby hated squawkeye fans, but now I find he hates public education. These positions seem at odds since the last thing I think of when I think squawk fans is 'educated'.

Paying exorbinate property taxes--much more than we should in comparison to other cities, was my point

Reading comprehension?

And yes, except for areas of Iowa, public education --high schools primarily, are a disaster

I'm curious how much you pay in property taxes?

So much hate for kids and those who have kids on here. How many of you that dont have the time of day for kids or hate those who brag about them have pets and talk about them to others?

Which brings us to the venn diagram of hate: the people who don't have children, but spoil their pets and refer to them as "the kids." Stop. It.

Whenever I am having a bad day at work, one of my colleagues asks me how my kids are. By taking a couple minutes to share their latest stories, I always end up with a smile on my face.

Something similar happens to me. If I'm having a bad day I just listen to my co-worker talk about her kids and it makes me feel good to just go home to my wife and cat.

Well this changes my thoughts about you.

I had a thought on Jamby's rant and some other posts in this thread this morning and I thought it was appropriate for election day. I'm only 25, so maybe I'm just romanticizing a time that I wasn't really a part of, but doesn't it seem like there was a time when people took a little bit of pride in being in a town that had good schools and stuff like that, instead of just ******** about everything that took a dime out of their pocket? Are we that much more transitory and solitary of a society now that people can't see any value in something that doesn't directly benefit themselves? Seems like kind of a shame.
