I've heard some reports that former Iowa QB Chuck Long, asst at Oklahoma for 6 years now Head Coach at San Diego State is being considered to replace McCarney. I wonder how ISU fans would react to him?

Dunno - he hasn't done much at San Diego St.

Interesting, that we stick with the Hayden Fry Tree, however...

Considering Replacements? Seriously! You think that they just skip right by the decision and are already worried about who is coming in. The rumors on message boards make me laugh. At least you didn't start this one "My wife heard from her big donor boss.... "

Not seriously considering it, personally I don't think it'll happen.

Anyone who doesn't think Pollard doesnt have a short list of candidates already probably also thinks ISU will win the national championship. Just look at the basketball coaching decision.

Amen to that, CY ST8T. :yes4lo:

I actually heard from my cousin that his DR's brother's friends next door neighbor that grew up next to a guy that knows Bill Bilichik said he was actually interested in the Cyclone coaching job if it becomes available. Enough with the rumors. I can't wait for a new coach but we are still stuck with the ones we have now. Until Mac gets fired nobody is going to be interested in a job that's not even there.

I'm pretty sure that the "search" hasn't gotten that far. I am sure Pollard has a wish list for every position just in case, but I don't think he is sending out feelers just yet. There is a big difference in the situations between McCarney and Morgan. McCarney took a dead program and made it respectable. Morgan took a respectable program and made it dead.

Really?

I heard from my old roomates ex-girlfriend that her aunt who lives in Miami that Jimmy Johnson is thinking about returning to Ames to clear things up. Oh, and he wants Cooper to run the defense.

You know what? As much as I don't think Mac is the man for the job, I want him to prove me wrong and get 3-4 of the next games and win 9 games next year.

I agree with that. I would love to see Coach Mac take the Cyclones to the Big 12 title or a January Bowl. He really does deserve to be the guy to do all of that but with the way things are in the club house and the way things look on the field i highly doubt he is going to be the guy to do so.

Great, another stupid rumor started by another noob. Come on folks, you can't possibly believe that there are any serious talks going on about coaching possibilities for next season while we are still in the middle of this current season? It's not even a given that Mac is a lame duck at this point. What happens (and this is a BIG "if") we won out the rest of the season going 7-5? What happens then. I would bet the mortgage that doesn't happen but at this point in the season I garuntee you that Pollard is not lining up candidates for a job that has yet to be vacated.

No, but acquaintances of 4 coaches have been contacted by acquaintances of JP to check if those 4 coaches would be interested in the ISU job should it open up. I can assure you, Chuck Long is not one of them.

Chuck Long can't win in a crappy conference. Why replace someone who can't win in the Big 12 with someone who can't win in a non-BCS league?
