I think losing Money Reynolds is going to hurt more than we think. Who do we have that can go get the ball 40+ yards down field? Lenz doesn't seem like a guy that can or is meant to do that. More of a possession wide out. Gary? West? Horne? Young? Those guys seem like possession recievers. I hope Daniels can step up and be that big body WR we can take a shot to down field. Also I hope maybe Quan West can step in and be a guy like that, but it's going to take him some time to get use to the playbook.

How many 40+ yard pass plays have we really run over the past 3 years? Doesnt seem like many to me. Most of our passes are shorter routes anyway so i don't feel like we are much worse off than we were before. (As far as deep threat goes)

It seemed like we took plenty of shots down field last year.

Money disappeared down the stretch, last year. During the first 5 games of the season, he grabbed 26 catches for 488 yards and 6 TD's. In the last 6 games (I'm not counting the Kansas game as he did not play) he had 17 catches for 173 yards and 1 TD.

It's not like he was this huge cog in the offense for us all year. He played well against the non conference teams, Texas and Baylor. But after that, fell off the map.

I don't think we've had a true deep threat since Todd Blythe. Even though Jake Williams had the ability to make big plays once in awhile. I'm not expecting big things out of the receiver spot this fall. Lenz and Gary are solid but after that it's hit and miss. Hopefully Bundrage is ready to make an impact.

I think we might be looking at "downfield" differrntly. I think of a downfield shot as any route about 20+ yards, not just a 40 yard fly.

Money did drop quite a few balls, but he gave us the option of going down field if we wanted. Reynolds could have been REALLY good if he was consistent because he made some crazy grabs here at his time at ISU...but he also dropped quite a few he should have had.

Money got a lot of downfield opportunities when SJ was in at QB; less so after JB took the reins. I don't think it's as important to have guys who can stretch the field as deep threats as it is to have guys who are good in space. That's where your explosive plays occur.

I'm not sure if JB can even throw it over 40 yards.

Deep game. You must mean the running backs going to the house. We do not remember much for deep passing.

We didn't have a deep game last year.

Money had 4 grabs over 40 yards. I'm trying to remember them. I believe one was the gadget play against UConn where he nearly got called for taunting. One was the 3rd and 20 play against Iowa. And the other two were against Baylor.

4 is not much.

I'm hoping Bundrage and Daniels are the type of guys to be able to get off a jam from the corner and get downfield, and can go get a ball thrown down the field. Money was ok at that, but we haven't had someone good at it since Blythe.

Maybe with Messingham as the OC, everyone will be more in sync an we can take more shots down field.

We don't go deep much but it did seem like we went more last year than the previous 2 under CPR. Money hit a couple against UCONN and I remember us missing (I wanna say) Lenz at Baylor and at least once against Texas. Jantz also didn't see a wide open Lenz the opening drive against Iowa, I think we have WR capable of getting downfield, our problem has been a qb that can make a solid throw when they do.
