NBA Draft Projections

If you are one of the many posters who would encourage Royce to follow Fred's advice, and Fred is now on record saying that Royce has some good options and may or may not benefit from another year ... I don't see how you can be very confident in the opinion that Royce is better off returning. If Fred can't say it conclusively at this point, not sure how any of us can.

A lot of (understandably) wishful thinking going on around here. I think he's gone and I'm happy for him. Seems like a great kid.

You may want him gone but Fred is handling this like the pro he is. Very simple they are chcking things out. Will get the best advice available and then talk about it.. BTW Fred has not said Royce would not benefit from another year.. Choose your words correclty please! Royce is a Lottery pick if he comes back meaning another year gets him a huge guaranteed contract that sets him for life. If he comes out this year he risks falling into second round which he is very close now on most sites and no guaranteed money if things don;t work out. Best advice is one more year with a injury insurance policy and he is set no matter what... And remember Royce loves ames and is very loyal to freddy hoiberg. This is setting up perfect for a monster team next year. If Royces moves up to the lotery things may change and he may come out. But right now I would bet he comes back....

Absolutely age based for NBA drafts. If he stays until next year he will be 22 at the time of draft. I bet you only 2 guys that are 22 will be drafted 1st round this year. NBA loves young guys that are prospects.

Age for Big guys doesn't mean as much.

AND There are exceptions to age meaning everything and those exceptions usually go high. Look at Wes Johnson (we at ISU should be familiar) Plays 2 years at ISU trasnfers so he sits out and 4 years out of High School, after a great year at Syracuse, goes top 5.

D-Wade was a 3 year college player not that long ago and it took a final 4 run for him to get pub and is great in the NBA.

Royce went from no pub to just getting some and jumped a ton of spots. This years draft is loaded. He should cash in on the pub he will receive by coming back and next year go top 5.

As far as NBAdraft.net goes, it is horrible. Should be the last reference anyone uses. Wait until Draft Express comes out with their revised rankings.

Just because Fred didnt get on KXNO or some other media outfit and lay out his discussion with Royce doesn't mean Fred doesn't have "conclusive" advice for Royce. Fred isnt obligated to tell us. And i wouldnt expect him to.

Maybe a lot of us think he can be more than a 2nd round NBA pick?
If he's not a lock for the 1st round, he's coming back. I didn't realize there was anyone here who thinks he would consider leaving if he's projected in round 2. If he's not projected round 1, there's nothing to talk about.

If at this point in time Fred didn't honestly believe what he said during the interviews ... he wouldn't have said anything at all. It is easy to say nothing.

Yeah, I dont think he said much. Exactly right.
Of course he is going to do interviews. That's part of the gig. And of course they are going to ask him those questions. Its called "Coach Speak".

Yeah, why do coaches give interviews at all? Their entire repertoire consists of non-committal answers.

Royce may not get better, but a weaker draft class will help him make more money regardless. He's projected as a late first rounder, but that's with no overseas players in the first round. That is highly unlikely to hold true when the draft rolls around, given the current overseas trend in the draft.

Next year's class won't be nearly as strong.

Fred did say nothing. That is the point. I doubt Fred knows, I doubt Royce even knows yet. People like to deal in absolutes like Fred and Royce know what is going to happen or know 100% for sure. Things don't work like that. I would bet neither know for sure yet. This is not a decision that is made quickly, and it will take some time. It isn't black and white, there are a lot of things to consider, lot of people to talk to about it, and a lot of things to think about. People saying absolutely one way or the other aren't the ones that have to make the decision.

and you base this on what?

You mean the anxiety/issues with flying ISN'T the number one issue that analysts, scouts, and announcers bring up regarding White?

He's got everything else you want for a player. But the anxiety is a big hitch in a draft class this strong.

I like my undersized post players to have a midrange jumper too, but that's just me.

There are players who go in the first round (hell, even the lottery) that are lacking just as much, if not more. It's more about potential, hence Drummond still being a top 5 projection.

I understand how the NBA draft work. But you just claimed Royce had everything else you would want in a player, thus the only reason he wasn't in the first round was his anxiety issues. So which is it?

So he doesn't have EVERYTHING you want. But whenever you hear analysts and scouts talk about him, it's not his midrange game they bring up as a red flag.

Honest question -- I don't really pay much attention to the NBA -- so bear with me...are they just not including European players in their mock right now, or are they not being drafted due to some change due to the new CBA.

My only point is that some people here are CONVINCED that RW would benefit from another year. It doesn't sound like Fred is convinced of that fact so if he's not ... I'm not either.

Maybe Hoiberg's not convinced that White will actually improve as a player with another year. But his stock for next year's draft can EASILY improve, simply because it's going to be much weaker than this year's.

But I also don't think he's going to go on the air and say "I definitely think he needs to come back." 1. That just doesn't look good in any case, and 2. It's still a little early to have all the necessary information to come to a solid conclusion.

I'd like to see RW stay one more year and truly become an ISU legend. If he leaves now, we will remember him for awhile...but like Brackins, Stinson, or Blalock, they just didn't do much and will be forgotten in a few years (granted RW got us back into the NCAA's). I'd like him to work his way up to Tinsley/Fizer status where he'll ALWAYS be remembered as a cyclone great.

Ironically, Fizer was in similar situation (much better draft stock actually) and left early. That was a no brainer. But, if Fizer had come back in 01', that would have been the greatest Cyclone team ever. They won the Big 12 without him.

I agree, I'd love for Royce to be cemented in Fizer/Mayor status.

He's going to be a 3 in the NBA.

Those of you saying he'll be a lottery pick if he stays one more year, what are you basing that on? Won't next year's crop of one-and-done super-freshman be the 2013 lottery picks? I wouldn't be so sure that RW can play himself into lottery status. They draft on potential. I don't know how much higher his stock can go right now.
