All of you guys bashing Fred Hoiberg should not call yourselves Cyclone fans. Anyone who is a real ISU fan loves this hire and is extremely excited over it. Freddy will be successful here no doubt.

And you guys are crazy for wanting BG. Yeah, lets have another drunk lead our kids and be the face of our program. Good coach, but not a chance in hell JP would do this.

Welcome home Freddy!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just got the news and can't stop smiling! I so pumped for ISU basketball again!

I couldn't write anything better than this.

wow! what a crazy thing to log in and see! i think this can work nicely if he surrounds himself with the right staff combination of x/o's coaches and recruiters. JP swinging for the fences here - it is exciting, but scary at the same time! I'm in 100% though!

You may like JP or you may hate him but either way you can't say he doesn't have brass. JP is really putting his neck on the line on this one. If Hoiberg isn't successful it'll be tough to have to fire the legend.

You have to realize that the confidence of most people was shot at that point. Everyone was so used to bad news that some of the responses you see were people afraid that our dying program would drag Fred down with it or that Fred was being used as a crass PR move (which isn't really very JP).

They were wrong, but some of it is understandable. Not all, but some.

Hoiberg always succeeds. He's the kind of guy that just creates success everywhere he goes.
If this is true, he'll win. He knows the Magic here. He can tell recruits stories that will make them think Ames is a serious place.
He knows the fans, so he can sell tickets like crazy. Think that our sleeping giant wouldn't go completely nuts to see the Mayor lead us back to the tournament?

I am so glad this thread got brought back up after clinching the NCAA tournament in his 2nd season. I have to admit I was one of those fans that had some serious doubts about bringing in a coach with no experience to help turn around a struggling program.

I'll admit ive eaten a lot of tasty crow from the initial hire announcement, but after i heard his initial press conference (and the way he immediately connected with the team) he did a lot to bring me on board.

I think he won over a lot of people pretty quickly.

My initial reaction: "WTF JP?!?"

I think it took me about 15 minutes to come around and get excited about the hire.
