We WILL be ranked next Monday..

We NEED to get ranked. Our non-conference schedule was weak enough and with the losses to UNI and Drake, we are NOT going to get into the RPI top 25. So we need to get into the voted top 25. KSU was JUST in the top 25 two weeks ago. There is no reason that we shouldn't be there. I really think we'll be in this week.

I think there were people who just needed proof that beating Kansas wasn't a fluke. ISU has validated (for now) significant improvement and are legitimately the 4th best team in the second best conference. Plenty of reason to jump a team that didn't lose.

We'll see. Fun to talk about.

Yes!

I don't think most people would consider a home win against KSU and a road win against OU to be huge wins. They are to us, but outside of Ames no one is looking at those wins and thinking they're huge wins.
I think you are correct.

You should care. Top 25= respect from comittee.

Do you actually believe this? I seriously doubt the committee is spending much time (if any at all) poring over the media rankings to make their tourney selections. They'll look at stuff like RPI, SOS, quality wins, bad losses, how you finished the season, etc. when making their comparisons between teams.

Now if you want to make the argument that being ranked is important for recruiting reasons, I could probably get on board with that.

New team, new coach, new world. Can't be afraid of success, which a ranking will recognize. I think Hoiberg will not let it go to their heads. OSU on road will be tough regardless.

I agree with this. People weren't quite ready to buy in when all we had was a win over KU. Now we have a win over K-State and a winning conference road record to add to that, and we've won 5 of 6.

We have a lot of votes to make up, but we've got a lot going for us. We're either going to be in or just outside. And as I said earlier, if we don't get in this week, win two next week and removal all doubt.

Oh, and I would give almost anything to be in Omaha for the first two rounds. Seeing a sea of cardinal and gold in Qwest would be incredible.

You are missing a component, teams in the top 25 get their scores shown all the time and are more likely to have highlights up during college basketball telecasts. That does matter, because even though the committee uses RPI, SOS, ect. they all are people that follow college basketball during the season and bring perceptions of team into the room. Much like most of us on here know a lot more about how teams in the top 25 are doing compared to teams 26-50 (excluding Big 12 teams). No they will never look at end of the season rankings when making their selections, but it does matter in terms of perception.

And certainly it makes an impact in terms of recruiting.

I believe Creighton is ineligible to play at the Omaha site in the tourney because it's their home floor (Qwest Center). Correct me if I'm wrong

Absolutely correct - Creighton cannot play in Omaha. Even if it wasn't their home court Creighton would probably be the "host institution" for the Omaha site, making them ineligible to play there.

You obviously have no clue about the thought processes of the selection committee. The committee doesn't give two ****s about media or coaches rankings.

you obviously have no clue how the human mind works. Everybody is a little bit subconsciously biased.
