It could be similar to the SEC saying they didn't want to move past 12. Put information out there that says you're not looking to get bigger...but oh wait...Louisville is interested? Gotta check them out.

This is good news, IMO. We can't lose the giant universities we did and replace them with more than one small private school (TCU). Let's stop right here.

Yeah... no. If we're settling at 10 TCU shouldnt even be in the picture. If we're adding TCU it at very least should be as part of a package that gets us to 12 or 14.

I don't believe for a second that the Big 12 is stopping at 10 for the long term.

Yeah, they might not add any more schools RIGHT NOW, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that they're adding for the next round of TV negotiations.

Stopping at 10 is the worst idea. Louisville and BYU are perfect for 12.

If Mizzou stays, stop at 10. Adding BYU would be a mistake, unless they give up their "we don't play on Sundays unless we're getting paid" policy. It'd be bad for the morale of the rest of the conference.
If Mizzou goes, then yeah, go after three more teams. But NOT BYU...

BYU>>>>>>>>TCU.

Who cares if we cant play them on sundays. Its one team, shouldnt be hard to make that schedule work.

Really though our biggest target should be Louisville, WVU if they're available, followed by BYU, and on down remaining big east teams.

I like BYU as an option, but I am concerned about the additional travel for all sports.

Take a look at all of our sports schedules and you'll see that a lot of our minor sports already do a ton of traveling to the east and west coasts. Not a huge deal.

I am sure this has been discussed before, however, I am not going to go through this massive thread to find it. Why not love for Houston? What does TCU bring to the table that Houston does not?

I've felt the same way all along. Colorado felt remote when they were here, and BYU is quite a bit further west than that. Add in the fact that there doesn't seem to be much potential for further expansion west, they would seem like they would be on a permanent island. I still think they would join in a heartbeat since the Pac 12 would never touch them, but if we have more options to the east that may be better for us.

“@BlairKerkhoff: Talked to two Big 12 athletic dept. officials and they agree: League unsure about a 10- or 12-team future.”

If it comes down to an even vote don't you think the tie-breaker should be the name of your conference? The Big Ten having 12 teams and the Big XII having 9 teams really bugs me.
