Capital City League

His Facebook stated two days ago that in two days he is off to College. Any chance he can get from New York to Ames and down to Des Moines in that amount of time? Being young I have no idea how long it takes. I was hoping he will be there tonight since I'm going down there tonight.

With today's modern aeroplanes, he should have no trouble at all.

These travel really fast.

ISU Cap City thoughts: Royce White is a men among boys, Tyrus McGee has a Big 12 body and great stroke.

I love hearing that. I realize that it's probably not the best idea to get my expectations for Royce up too high, considering he's never played a game at the collegiate level, but damn I really want him to be dominant. I want him to dominate for the team, for Iowa State, for the fans, and most importantly for himself.

I really can't wait to see him in that first game. I think he's going explode on the Big 12.

Ok so I am on my way home and it was a lot of fun. Lucious was really fun to watch he is really quick and made a ton of threes. Royce White was kind of a surprise to me. He had really good handles and was a very good passer. He only shot a couple times. Booker looked good too. Good rebounder and looks to be a threat from downtown. McGee has a beautiful shot and was just impressive all the way around. Chris Babb was also very fun to watch. Him and Melvin gaurded each other the whole game. Law is actually quick. Pretty good walk on. Clyburn was a beast. I was planning on filming but my phone died.

anybody else attend? these reports are much appreciated for those of us out of state. don't be shy, share your comments if you were there!

I saw probably 2/3rds of the 1st game. All of the 2nd and all but a minute of the 3rd.

Royce is huge. It will take him a while to get into game mode, I think. Don't get your expectations up too high. He is an outstanding passer (Hoiberg wasn't kidding when he said that). I just hope he has the guys that can catch those passes. He needs a mean streak.

Scotty shot lights out and didn't have a brace on his knee (that I could see). I know he did last year. Anyone who thinks he won't start is fooling themselves.

I didn't think Allen looked too interested, but I'm not concerned.

Booker can shoot the 3 and like Blum said, maybe too well. I think I'm going to like that kid. He was really interested in winning.

Clyburn is good, but super skinny.

Railey has gotten bigger and added more tattoos :)

McGee is quick and has a good shot.

Babb doesn't have as good as shot as Scott, but he is bigger and that is very intriguing to me.

Lucious is tiny, but super fast and has a good shot. It's really too bad we don't have him this year.

Ask if you have any questions and I can try and answer.

Did Royce and Booker hit the boards? or did they not really get into boxing out as it is pick-up ball?

Did Booker and Royce hit the glass?

Royce White is very impressive. Huge hands, big body, great handle, fantastic passer. Fans shouldn't be worried that he didn't socre, as he never looked too. He is a guy that can do it all.

Royce didn't a lot. But he was playing a team with a bunch of big guys and Royce played that point forward that Hoiberg talked about. I think he can rebound well and will.

Booker seemed to rebound pretty good. Just about the time I was thinking 'here we go again, another tall player who only wants to shoot 3's', he started to go inside.

Booker is interesting b/c if you follow him on twitter, he seems like a really earnest kid. I think he is going to care about winning a lot.

I do follow him on Twitter... I like him as well. Seems to care/ keep in touch with his teammates, especially the incoming guys like Lucious, Clyburn, McGee, etc.

From what I saw it really looks like Royce is going to be a fantastic defensive player. It seemed like everytime someone drove the ball to the hoop on him he was able to strip the ball or steal the ball from them. He also got some blocked shots too. I was also very impressed with his passing and he is a good ball handler and even brings the ball up the court very well. He is going to be just what we need to guard big men down low this season, something we didn't have at all last season.

Tonight was my first time at a CCL game, and it was a blast! It was much more fun than I expected. Any fans in the Des Moines area should really go check it out at least once. The attendance was pretty good. Probably almost as many as were at the ISU/Alabama State game last November.

Christopherson played better than anyone on all 6 teams. Really. I was incredibly impressed with his on-floor leadership. It also cracked me up the way he was giving the refs the stink eye or getting in their ear when they weren't calling anything. Did anyone hear if he had the bone spur on his elbow removed this spring?

Raily looked good. Hit several mid-range jumpers, as he started to do last season.

Ejim looked more confident, a little bigger, and had my favorite dunk of the night - taking it straight to the hoop after bringing the ball all the way up court.

Lucious is very talented (but surprisingly small), and he knows it. I like that when the guy is on my team.

Clyburn did a lot of good things, but his shot was off a bit tonight. Pretty thin.

McGee was very impressive - built, quick, and did a lot of good things.

White was different than I expected. Not necessarily better or worse, just different. He was setting good screens and passing well. I expected him to take over a little more offensively at times.

Babb seemed to be a strong leader, and was shooting and passing well.

Booker started a little slow, and then came on really strong and helped lead his team to a victory after trailing by double-digits.

Allen's shot was also a little off tonight, but he also showed strong leadership skills.

Law looked pretty good at times too.

Overall, I was very excited to see several of these guys play for the first time. I can't wait to watch them again on Sunday.

I didn't do it tonight, but in the future I should be able to get video if some would like it -- camera's not in town at the moment. I should be able to do this for each of the Wednesday sessions except the last one. I wouldn't make any of the Friday games, and probably only the last two games on the each Sundays (except July 10 & 17 -- might not make those two at all).

Also, uploading might take a day or two due to my schedule.

Anyway, I figured it's better than nothing. *Just a heads up*

Edit: --Just looked at the picture thread. Looks like Chris has video. Not sure if mine will be necessary.--

We need to keep in mind that Royce put up 16.4 ppg in high school as an elite prospect. He did have other help around him like Rodney Williams, but he was the man on that team and didn't put up the huge scoring numbers that a lot of main offensive weapons do in high school. He looked to do a lot of other things and that's perhaps just his game and could be what we see from his ISU career as well. The 2.4 apg while being the main offensive threat is impressive for his position.

His strengths listed coming out of high school according to Scout were finisher and hustle. Two great traits to have. His weaknesses? Perimeter shooting and ballhandling, which both appear very good to me from what I've seen.
