Oklahoma State Game to be played on Friday, Nov 18

I love that were playing a home game on ESPN but isn't that the Friday before Thanksgiving break? I hope the students stick around for that one. Having it on Friday should help though.

That's actually a decent point... students may stick around for friday night and head off to break for thanksgiving after.

On the other hand, its going to be an 8pm game, in november, meaning even colder, so attendance may be negatively affected that way.

I would think Friday would have a much better draw. Students who are going to leave for break right after classes weren't going to be sticking around for the Saturday game anyway.

This is great! the game against Mizzou was a night game, but it was on Saturday. I'm sure a lot more students will stick around. Plus ESPN 2!

Pollard also added that Iowa State closes for Thanksgiving on Nov. 21, so moving the Oklahoma State game a day earlier eased concerns for students heading home for the holiday.

“Our department met with student leaders and the President’s leadership team to discuss the opportunity, and the feedback was that playing Friday night was beneficial in regards to the student body’s travel plans,â€￾ Pollard said.

Yeah.. but thats the effect on a segment of our attendance, about 7,000. What about the other 40k?

Well thats good he talked about it with student leaders. I know I'd stay for that game, assuming we were 0-10 at the time.

As a student, I am more likely to stick around for the game since it is on Friday now. This is very good because we will get better attendance, more exposure, and more money!

At least we aren't playing a Thursday night game this year...then even more people would complain about this.

True that. Cyclones traditionally excel at one thing - whining. :)

I think this is great. I'm not over-the-moon about a Friday night game - but I'm ecstatic we're getting 2 games on ESPN. The money is always great, too.

For a financially-starved school - we need the cash. This is a huge win for ISU. Yes, there will be some negatively impacted by the schedule change. However, change and benefits do come with some consequences.

This is for the greater good - period.

I don't know what to say to this. If they can't make it to a nationally televised conference home game on a weekend night than there is no hope.

More than likely, the fact that it is televised will hurt attendance. Not everyone can get out of work early enough to get over to the game early, and combined with typically frigid weather for that week (where attendance normally sucks anyways), and who knows what we'll look like at that point record-wise, a lot may just watch it from home.

I'm planning on being there, and espn coverage is a good thing, just stating the facts based on prior attendance trends. Im hoping they get the tailgate lots open early.

Makes it a little tougher on us working folk, & definitely cuts into tailgating, but I'll make it work!

I understand the tailgating point, but most people who get off at 5 should be able to make it to Ames by 8pm from almost anywhere in the state. It's never going to be perfect; some people work on Saturdays too.

From the press release, this will be the ONLY time ISU has EVER had 2 games on ESPN in a single season. That alone should tell you how important it is that we jump at every opportunity for national exposure.
