WHAT'S THE MATTER

And the claim to an undefeated career. He had a loss at the UNI Open while redshirting that doesn't count on his official record.

Everybody redshirts. Anyone who doesn't realize that hasn't been paying attention to wrestling in the past 40 years. The fact that we have a true freshman in the line-up this year should be a huge red flag for people to see how little Jackson has to work with.

Oh yeah. There is that too.

Next year after finishing last this year, what place will we finish next year with all our pieces in place? How many years does it take to rebuild this team to get back to our average over the last 25 years since we could count on a good team?

With Nebby leaving the worst we can do will be fourth next year? Or will we add a UNI?

Guess pointing to Big 5 championships did not solve our basic problem: we were not very aggressive in the end.

From the source that I get all my info from, has said that UNI has tried getting in but the Big 12 shot them down.

I personally think KJ needs atleast 3 but prolly 5. This year is almost a wash because of situation we were put in. Next year we should be much better in duals but maybe not so much at tournaments. Our recruits should be able to bring in some much needed lift to the team, that is if they live up to there potential. You have to give KJ time to build a team and build a name for himself, this will help him pull in some more recruits and get ISU back on the map hopefully.

I don't believe redshirting was an option during much of Nichols time, since freshmen were not eligible. I believe almost every program redshirts all of their freshmen, this is how they continue to build their programs.

ding ding. gable only wrestled varsity 3 years. woodie is just another guy that hits the submit button without thinking too hard on what he has just written. i'm getting more frustrated with our fanbase lack of knowledge on our situation then i am with kj and the boys.

Couldn't of said it anybetter myself. Its been pretty aggrivating sometimes the comments that people make and they dont have any clue what caused this year to be the way it is or was. KJ knows what the hell he is doing and if you ever talked to the guy, you would understand.

Oh geez, there are plenty of "knowledgeable" fans who are upset with things - check out my section 134, full of ex-wrestlers and current HS coaches who are wondering what's going on. Please stop with this.
How about Cyclone great Chris Bono? He certainly wouldn't be called a KJ supporter. Is he "knowledgeable" enough for you?

So we have 2-5 years to wait to get back to average? That is similar to what we heard from McD. We eventually found out his MVC recruits needed to be better and then we just found out his Big 12 recruits were not coachable. Perhaps coaching his son helped this year at CV. Sure hope wrestling is not like this. Looks like we need to get better athletes to compete though.

sorry to the bono supporters out there, but i think kj might have a little more experience then chris. not sure what went down there, but my heart wasn't broken by him leaving. what was section 134's expectations this year?

we lost 70% of our starters last year, along with beard and jensen who both could have been starters this year, coupled with 1 full recruiting class being wiped. but ya, we should be competing for a title this year:v_SPIN:

Prior to coming to ISU, Jackson was the national freestyle coach. He knows how to coach high level athletes. And his first recruiting class, redshirting this year, is really good. Also, if you just look at how everyone on the team has improved over the course of the year, you can see that he knows what he is doing.

Look at Shafer, for one. He wrestled Larson in December and lost 4-8, wrestled him in the dual season and lost 3-4, wrestled him yesterday when it counts and was up 3-0 when he got the pin.

Or Cash beating a guy yesterday that had major decisioned him earlier in the year.

Or Simonson beating Rosholt after losing to him earlier in the year.

Or Ward beating Johnson, who he had lost to in the dual, which will give him a higher seed at NCAAs and make his path to AA much easier.

This year's team was cobbled together from transfers and walk-ons and Jackson got the most he possibly could out of them.

Sounds like what CFH just did. Next year will bring big change for bball.

That's fine, let's see what happens. The future may be bright.
Just saying that to dismiss those who think otherwise as not "knowledgeable" is ridiculous. There are lots of ISU fans, with strong wrestling backgrounds, who are worried. I sit in the middle of them.

oh i'm right there with ya in the middle tornado man. but there are a lot of posters on here that have no clue what situation we are in thinking we should be competing for a national title this year and there was no coach in the world that could have us competing at that level given the circumstances is all i'm saying.

But to say this is all Jacksons fault is outta line. How is he supposed rebuild a team in 2 years, after losing almost all his returning starters last year. The people that call for coaches heads after a year or 2 in need to get a life.

Basically when a wrestling coach leaves a program, it submarines that team for at least a year. ISU essentially had an empty recruiting class, and a part of one take off(with wrestlers like Dan Taylor this is significant). Jackson had to put together a team with JUCOs and lower tier Iowa kids. His JUCOs were non-factors(Gibson is not eligible, and Hawes got stuck behind Ward because Ward would not make 184, and Hunter was not the answer). His lower weights were not there all year, and it showed. The better wrestlers at most weights were RSFr this year. This team will improve a bunch next year just by these kids getting on the mat. We will lose one stud(Reader) but should have a much better team.

Brett108 - Just to let you know, its David Taylor.

They can say that but they gave up their automatic qualifiers. I just question how many at large bids we get. It could make things a little difficult for B12 wrestling. If we'd add teams I'd hope we add 4 to make a full 8 man bracket. UNI, Wyoming, Boisie St. and I don't know who? North or South Dakota, Ut Valley? It would take a while for some of those schools to build up the quality of wrestlers they have to compete with.

It won't be Boise State, they are in conference already.

Having mentioned the JUCO transfer part. I am in favor of using true freshman instead of JUCO. Look at our latest JUCO transfers, Hunter (lost to academics), Gibson (ineligible for grades), Hawes (a backup), Carr (part time starter). Maybe Carr would have performed at 157, I don't know how he competed with Weatherman. If we get an upper classman, it should be a guy that has competed against some DI guys.

Why don't you ask some of your knowledgeable, credentialed section 134 friends to sign up on CF and start posting some intelligent discussion regarding what problems and issues they see with the program?
