Concerts This Spring/Summer

If I remember correctly, DMB is doing 4 "multi-day, multi-band" events this summer. This was posted on their Facebook page..

Hopefully the come to the Red Sky Music Festival in Omaha This year... BUT i really doubt that dmb will do ANY shows this year.... But i hope im wrong...

Definitely go. We were going to go to the Slowdown show before committing to the Colorado vacation. We went when they played there in 2008. Incredible show. We were right up against the stage below Mike Cooley, and when they came out for the encore I start yelling "Marry Me" (which is the name of a song, not a literal request) and sure enough Cooley gets this **** eating grin across his face and tears into the opening riff of "Marry Me".

Earlier in the night someone passed me the largest joint I had ever seen in my life. No comment as to what action I took upon receipt of said joint, but the beer was pretty cheap for a concert venue.

In the end, I love the Slowdown.

Here is a shot from a Truckers show in Denver from about 2009 sponsored by Jack Daniels.

I'll be at the Ryan Bingham show in March too. And the DBT show at Slowdown on the 27th. I'd love to catch the Dropkick Murpheys show in DSM, but I'm not sure I'm going to make it to that one. Aside from that I'm looking forward to some Filter Kings (local band) shows coming up.

DBT in Chicago later this month. I'm not much on large venue/arena shows but Bob Seger is touring this spring so that is a possibility. Will also try to make as many DBT shows as I can. Almost forgot James McMurtry/Bottle Rockets at People's.

Joe Bonamassa is coming to CY Stephens March 5. I've got front row balcony seats. I love going to concerts in CY since the acoustics are awesome. I've been checking out Youtube and there are some videos of him covering some Jimmy Page Zep riffs.
I've seen Joe Bo 5-6 times, most recently at the Englert in Iowa City in May. I've been to hundreds of shows and that may have been the best guitar playing I've ever heard.

I thought New Wave was a very good album, despite the obvious major label production. I've never held it against a band for going to the majors, as long as they continue to make good music.

Yeah, that Social D show would be sweet to catch. I'm really disappointed that they're playing Warped Tour all summer. I can't imagine Lucero really fits that bill. I can't imagine skater punk bratty teenagers appreciating Memphis soul Southern rock w/only a little dash of punk. Songs like "The War" will be totally lost on that crowd, I fear.

I disagree with Social D and Lucero not fitting, in my opinion if u like one you would like the other, plus Social D demographic has changed as they(should say he, Mike Ness is the only original) have gotten older.
Also saw just announced today, Street Dogs at vaudville mews March 5, Friday/Saturday Irish Punk is alive in DES Moines...

No, I meant Lucero and the Warped Tour. Social D makes sense. Lots of similarities.

I just got my tickets for the Joe Purdy show at the Mews. Saw him last time he was in town and can't wait to see him again.

This will be my 3rd year @ New Orleans Jazz Fest

& my 4th 80/35, this festival doesnt necessarily get top talent but its in a cool venue & is a great time. I typically volunteer to get a day for free or sometimes get bumped up into the VIP area... the 1st year there were free vodka redbulls for 2 straight days... yowzer.

Summer Camp in IL should be pretty sweet, although I dont think I can make it.

Camp Eurphoria was fun a few years back...

I just found out about McMurty and the Bottle Rockets at People's. I'll definitely be hitting that. Hayes Carll plays the next day at Vaudeville Mews.

If the PJ thing develops, I'll be there.

Otherwise:
1) Drive-By Truckers, 2 night stand at the Ogden Theatre in Denver. March 18-19. Spring Break. Snowboarding at A-Basin for St. Paddy's day, then touring breweries the next couple of days and going to the shows at night.

2) Hayes Carll, Vaudeville Mews on April 3rd. It's a sunday night, so I'll take it a little easy, but apparently Hayes can get pretty loaded @ his shows so I might be having to match him.

If you want to do some tours in Ft Collins, PM me. I'm sure you could find your way around, then again I like beer so it can be my excuse.

Paddy's Day at A-Basin is intriguing as well....

Where is this at, I have heard nothing?? Usually I am on top of that stuff.... I am overly pumped for Dropkick and Against Me, I just heard on Friday that Off With Their Heads are opening too..... If you have not heard everyone needs to, very awesome..... Then the Street Dogs are the next day at Vaudeville Mews....
