I don't mind losing as long as we play well. Didn't do that tonight. Not even close. So yeah, tonight I do mind losing. No one should be okay with that performance.

2. We were outcoached tonight for sure. I'm not saying Fred isn't a good coach because I think he can coach, but when your team averages 85 pts a game and they avg 63 pts a game, and the score is about at their avg... you've been outcoached.
It's a lot easier to slow the game down, then speed it up. All you need to do on offense is stand around and pass until the shot clock is down to 10.

Same as last year, DG, JVB, SC don't know how to win. Seriously, Diante, a standing dribble at the top of the key with 30 secs left while down 4pts?

He also likes to walk it across the half court line down 4 points. There's just no sense of urgency with Diante. That's fine when you're blowing teams out but we need some high energy guys to help us win the close ones. I hope we have at least one scrappy player coming in next year. Scotty doesn't seem to fit that bill. Talent will only take you so far.

Well, I was starting to think we had a decent team, but tonight's game reminds me that we definitely don't. I think it'll take a miracle for us to finish outside bottom 3 in the Big XII.

You gathered all this just tonight? You're quite the insightful fella.

I'm saying it right now: This board had better get ready for some massive meltdowns come Big 12 play. Expectations were set way too high.

The slowdown game just seems to suck the life out of him, or take the fun out of the game.

I don't think that really excuses it or anything, but it's obvious that a game like that just doesn't agree with him.

We've been saying that about his improved performance this season. Fair to say in his ugliest game that the plodding style just doesn't fit him at all. He can't get into a good rhythm with it.

This post makes no sense. Maybe a little bit, but really closer to none.

Re: glad i didn't sip too much kool-aid

seriously, calm down people. it's 1 game. should we have won, maybe, but we didn't. we played poorly throughout from the sound of it, and that is a recipe for a loss. hopefully the guys can learn from the loss and move forward. after all, all i really want is improvement out of this team-nobody thought we would be world beaters or win every game, so losing our first road test shouldn't surprise anyone. the buildup of the 6-0 start was a great thing for the teams mojo, but a terrible thing for cf posters-a lot of people on here drank way too much of the stuff, and expectations got raised to what i would consider unrealistic.

lets all take a breath, back away from the ledge, and see how we handle the loss. 1 game better not define this season.

But...but....the sky is falling!! Haven't you noticed?

Every team has a bad night here and there, and every team (well, most every team) loses games sometimes. Even great ones. And I don't think any of us think we have a great team this year. I am worried about the way we looked tonight. It reminded me way too much of the past four years. But I hope the team and staff learn from it. This game isn't the end of the world, it doesn't define our season, and it isn't worth jumping off the cliff over.

Now, if we lose to UNI next year...that could be a different story.

CF posters, feel free to re-adjust your expectations.

I fully expect several posters to claim we are headed for 3-4 conference wins.

If we beat Cal, I fully expect several posters to have us back in the NIT.

Good post. I enjoyed Fred saying the scout team kicked their *** last week. This thing was thrown together, we'll make the most of it. Look down the road folks, it'll be okay. It'll hurt in the short term, though, here and there. UNI's had a nice run, it's about over.

Re: glad i didn't sip too much kool-aid

It was like the 3 holdovers had a Big Mac Hangover, and tried to remember how to play that style ineffectively.

They've all shown that they can do better than this, so I'm not worried tonight. I'm really disappointed and ticked off about losing to UNI, especially after watching them, but not worried.

They certainly played the old ineffective style quite effectively...

UNI game aside...still potential for some good things out of this team this year. It all depends on how they learn from things like this

It was UNI's super bowl.

Super Bowl. Now that is fuh-nee. Beating Wichita State or Southern Ill in the MVC Tourney is a bigger deal than beating ISU. Beating ISU does nothing much for our RPI.

That said, please remember, the world thought ISU BB was dead just a few months ago. Hardly able to put 5 guys on the court with all the defections. How Fred is molding this team is, and will continue to be, impressive. I'm a Hoiberg fan and hope that ISU gets to the point where beating them will be a huge thing. I'm sure that day is coming.

Our "little run" has been going on for 7 years. With the recruits we have signed already, I don't see that stopping anytime soon.

What an awful game

UNI is terrible, We played worse and the refs were a complete fail. Refs didn't even try to keep it close. If anyone deserved to foul out it was Lucas O' Rear. How did he only end up with 3? Should have had 8 by my count.

Not gonna blame the officials at all for this one. The game was tied with 1 min to go and we still couldn't do enough to win.

However, if I wasn't an ISU fan I wouldn't have watched this game. With the way we played (with the way both teams played for that matter) and the way it was officiated, this game was un-watchable to the neutral.

You gathered all this just tonight? You're quite the insightful fella.

I haven't gotten to actually watch the team much at all so far. I've just seen scores, and listened on the radio. I was NOT impressed. (I was at the game tonight)

And I agree, people shouldn't rag on DG quite so much. He's not awesome, but he was the only one able to do anything with the ball tonight. Had some nice moves.

But I guess there's no graceful way to lose to UNI. You either look like ****, or UNI is hot from 3 point land.

Tonight, we looked like ****.
