I know it's a long shot but could this be a meteroite? This thing is really heavy, not magnetic, but they don't have to be. Any ideas where I could get this thing tested?

I want it to be a meteorite. If that helps. I'm not even an amateur geologist though. Whatever it is, it looks cool.

Yeah I'll like it no matter what it is, it's pretty cool looking. I dont have a magnet that is powerful enough to stick to it yet....but I have been using fridge magnets so I dont think they count as a magnet.

I would think a magnet off a fridge would be enough to tell, you should be able to feel a slight amount of attraction.
That being said, like you said, not all meteorites are magnetic. There are also some rocks from earth that are magnetic, so even if it were magnetic, you still wouldn't know.
Pretty cool looking rock. That'd be sweet if it really was a meteorite.

I'm not really sure until it cracks open while you are sleeping and the tiny little centipede-like beings run into to your ear canal and start directing your actions.

Then we'll see what's up.

It would be cool if it turned out being a meteroite, but I have my doubts. I've read that you need a strong magnet to attact a metorite to it because the meteorite itself isnt magnetic but metallic.

The rock does look cool but I think the real mystery is what is the rock sitting on in those pictures. That thing could be anything...at first glance it looks like a dead dudes dirty thumb or finger.

It's an old couch, and yes it is dirty. I'm not a millionare like the rest of you but I hope to soon be with my meteorite. :jimlad:

Or it's because I have the battery close and my hand far away. You would learn this if you ever have drawn anything.

looks radioactive... have a Geiger counter handy?

Maybe some space junk from the alien visits the other night?

You will want to immediately ask your neighbors if they have rectal pain from the probes.

This is sound advice here. I'd get right on it at 2:30 AM.

So it's not sitting in your hand in one picture and next to a battery in another picture for size comparison?

I was going to give him a hard time about that too but look at the orientation of the rock, it is different in the two pictures. I still think he has smaller than average hands though.
