David Sims charged

You just said it. If you kick off all talented but troubled players, you are left with a program that will have to go play in CUSA.

David Sims just happens to be black. The previous statement could be made regardless of what race the talented but troubled player is.

It's common sense people. Let this post stand as the final answer to the non-race issue at hand here. Well done azn4cy.

Actually, I don't think that. I think you can field a good team without having to make exceptions for the talented players who get in trouble. But like I said, I don't think this is a big enough issue to kick a guy off the team.

I think giving him the boot is over the top for his offense. In all actuality, maybe he should be given the boot for being one of the biggest idots around. Maybe Rhoads doesn't want such a moron on the team. I'm mean really, who finds a credit card, sees someone else's name on it and decides its a good idea to use it? Maybe if he had been drinking. Thats about the only explanation. If he was sober and used someone else's cc, then he's one of the dumbest fools around.
Have you ever sped?
Drank underage?
Cheated on an exam?
J-walked?

Now how do you rate everything on levels of stupid?

I don't know if I even agree with that, but that was the OP's opinion.. and it had nothing to do with race.

So anyway. I imagine this gets drawn out for a bit, some plea bargaining, and Sims gets hit with a lesser charge, and a one game suspension. Back in time to battle Bernstine for dumbest offseason choice made by Iowa/ISU player on the field.

I don't know. I guess I rank knowingly stealing someone else's money a little higher than Jaywalking.

Id say its between him and Binns. Driving drunk in Iowa city is just plain asking for it. Especially when you have a lot to lose.

From everything I've read on this issue, it seems that Sims already accepted a plea and this is the charge he agreed to. So this guilty plea keeps him from a felony. I could be wrong though, and probably am.

You have to be kidding me.

His trial SHOULDN'T be until after the season.

That is the only logical thing.

According to the Ames Trib article, there won't be a trial. Apparently he's pleading guilty?

Or is this already out-of-date?

And no...as a Hawk fan I'm not relishing in this kid's stupid mistake. Drives me crazy when these kids do stupid things like this and put their futures in jeopardy.

And getting back to the charges......

The story doesn't indicate the specific charge, just unauthorized use of credit card and aggravated misdemeanor. Come folks, I thought the research skills of people on this board was better than what you're indicating. It's not that hard to search the Iowa Code and see that Chapter 715A includes this charge.

IF this is the charge, and IF the reported aggravated misdemeanor is correct, code section 715A.6 would indicate this was use of the card to obtain property or services valued at less than $1000. Unauthorized use covers stolen and forged, use of canceled or revoked card, or any other use of the card that is unauthorized.

The charge is not yet recorded on Iowa Courts Online. Typically takes a day or so for it to be posted and made available. I suspect there's more to the story yet to come.

No.

"County attorney Stephen Holmes declined to comment on whether or not this meant Sims would be pleading guilty to the credit card charge at the initial appearance. Sims’ attorney could not be reached."

You're joking right? This charge is hardly serious...

I hate to admit but your right this charge isnt very serious... unfortunatly i did a stupid thing with some buddies when i was in college... We stole a BUNCH of street signs one night and kept them in our dorm room... Same night we stole the signs someone elso took the couch out of the dorm room lounge... so they did manditory room checks the next day to look for the couch... well guess what they found in our room... about 25 different road signs... anyways long story short we ended up getting charged with a AM.... had to serve a but load of community services and that was it.... I didnt get kicked out of school or lose my job.... I have never had a problem with it EXCEPT for when i go to Canada Fishing... Every year i have to explain what happened... I have applied and gotten hired for Several Jobs since with no problems... He was dumb..... but in no way is this a big deal... I bet he learns from it.....
