WBB Recruiting continued...

She may be interested in Stanford, but they have not offered her.....

I was under the impression that Stanford doesn't offer ANYONE unless they get accepted to the school first. Sure, they have targets, and athletes have interest in the school, but until said athlete gets accepted there, they shouldn't expect an offer from them.

That can't be true, since Jim Harbaugh is getting verbal commitments from football recruits who couldn't possibly have been yet accepted at Stanford, based on the extremely early date of the announcements of their commitments.
For example, RB Amir Carlisle (class of 2011) verbally committed to Stanford last summer, prior to his junior year in HS.

Top 25? I'm guessing that's a typo, although I'm not sure what you meant.

Hoopgurlz has 7 listed:

Kiah Stokes - College Basketball Recruiting 2011 - ESPN

That's not a good sign for ISU, but BF needs to continue to recruit her until she says no. She's a semi-local player, so recruiting her shouldn't take as much time and resources as other players might.

7 is what I meant 25 is what my stupid fingers typed. We can recruit her fine. But, we should not spend too much time. As far as the comments later about five Amanda Nisleits winning a Big 12 title. I wouldn't count them out. I have a feeling a star with an attitude would not last long around BF no matter how good they were and then you have the transfer problem all over again.

Sorry about the number mix up. I would lay odds that she goes to Conn. or Tenn.

Tara doesn't offer until they are accepted at Stanford - that is her rule. They discussed this during the NCAA tourney. She will take verbals, but won't offer the full scholly until they are accepted. The Paris twins verballed to Stanford, but didn't make it academically, so they ended up at OK.

25: 2+5= 7

I think that verbal commitment =/= scholarship offer. See the 8th grader or whatever that "committed" to USC earlier this year.

I don't know how it works technically with Tara/Stanford, but I do know that when we hear someone has been accepted to Stanford, that usually means its a done deal. My guess is she says, we will offer you a scholarship if you are accepted. And I am sure that once people make the choice to go there, they expedite the application so that she can continue the recruiting process if need be.

No Tara is just like Jim Harbaugh, she will offer a full athletic scholorship and then the student athlete still has to apply through the academic admissions program like anyone else. It is true that you still have to qualify academically but this is no different than any other university. I know this for a fact.

I don't know if I see it that way. I see Bonnie and Taylor as different type of players. They are more complimentary than actual same position players. I can't see them playing the same position in college. I would wonder if this hurts ISU's chances as it would give Taylor a good player to kick it out to for the 3 ball.

Yes, this has to be the case - if Stanford coaches had to wait until a recruit is actually admitted before they offer, they would be at a huge disadvantage compared to other schools.
And as you said, every school's offer is really "conditional," it's just that Stanford (and some others) has a little higher bar.

perhaps a recruit in visiting today? from Jodi's twitter:

Great day in Ames! Awaiting special visitors- love to show off ISU! So much to do, so little time. Cap off the day w Eric's band concert :-)[/QUOTE]

Any word on who might be visiting?

I doubt it'll be a recruit as according to his twitter, BF is attending a budget meeting.

I wouldn't think it would be the Greenfields. They are there more than some enrolled students. Hey, maybe the Stokes family will be making the trip over from Marion.

With the Cyclones adding Darcie ****, I believe one more offer is still on the table to a player for next season. I am pretty sure this is a JUCO player as well.

I think BF will be done recruiting for next year regardless of this decision.

While we only have 6 returners, add in the 4 or 5 newcomers you will have 10-11 without walk ons. Kelsey is the only senior and BF has said many times that the 2011 class is going to be a big year hopefully. He will want to save enough room to sign 4-5 kids from that class if he can.

I like where we are at for next year!

I don't follow WBB recruiting as much as I would like.

Where do we sit right now for recruits? Who has comitted and what is the general concensus on them?
