Best Unknown Guitarists

Yeah, but outside of the guitar circle and even big parts of the classic rock circles, most don't know who he is.

Now, Jerry Garcia is definitely not an unknown, but is vastly underrated, mainly because he didn't flex his muscles in his more well known music. Check out the Grateful Dead's early bluesy stuff from mid to late '60s. He could rail in those days.

Jerry had about a million side projects too, from Old and In the Way in the 70s, playing with David Grisman in the 80s and 90s, his solo band, JGB is pretty amazing too. He could play a mean banjo too. Good call, I always think JG is underrated and underappreciated except to deadheads like myself.

If you're going to say Jerry then don't you have to say Bob Weir too? I think Bob was as talented as Jerry. Listen to Bear's Choice or Workingman's Dead...

Someone who is well known for other things particularly as a producer but not respected enough as a guitarist is Todd Rundgren. Especially with Utopia and some of his recent tours.

IMO Jerry >> Bob.

Its a crappy recording, but the best Youtube has to offer. The guitar jam starts at about 3;30 and continues the rest of the way, peaking around the 7-8 minute mark.

Actually, Crucial Taunt's lead singer played bass.

Rod Torfulson's Armada featuring Herman Menderchuk. When they make it, they're gonna be huge. "Trampoline Girl" is the bomb.
