I didn't miss it, re-read my post, I said they had to choose the right guys. Perhaps I should have said recruit.
Okay, we'll combine.
Coach has to be able to recruit the right talent and keep them around.

What does it say about the state of our program that McDermott can't keep these guys around?
I think many fans excuse our program because guys have left and McDermott hasn't had enough time with them to instill his system. All the while we've glossed over the fact that it's McDermott's responsibility to build his team, when players leave it's ultimately on his ability to lead, not their lack of whatever (for leaving).
I thought Gilstrap had a nice game.
I also realize he's probably around at least another year regardless of this year's outcome.
Why not call BDV and ask him why LE was fired. That is when the program started to go down hill.
Well thank you for letting the rest of us know that McDermott is not the guy. Guess we should just fire him right now and start all over once again, huh? Then if things don't look better three years from now, you can demand that we fire that guy too and start all over again.
If Mac hadn't already taken a university with much less resources than ours to the dance, then I'd be more inclined to think it's time to make a change. But Mac has done it before - more than once - and he's done it the right way with true "student" athletes.
But many folks like you have so little patience. So they'd rather dump the guy now and start all over again because they believe in the remote chance that we'll find a coach who will magically take us to the promise land. And those same folks will call for that coaches scalp when he doesn't produce after three years.
Mac's tenure so far has been disappointing - there's no arguing that. I'm just one of those folks who'd rather hang with him for another year or two because I've seen him produce before.
I was at the game today watching our guys up close. I'm not questioning their effort today. Their discipline? It probably could have been better, but it's not the reason we lost. The reason we lost is simple. KU has the best players in the nation - it's that simple. Sometimes you just have to acknowlege how good your opponent is, even though it's very hard to do.
And kansas did not play that well today. it could have bneen a 35 point loss. Our guards usually end up a negative when matched against the other side. We continue to pass to the oputer limits each game. We throw balls over peoples head, we throw it at rim for dunk when our players are guarded, we bounce the ball off shoes, butts, faces, hands left and right. We are not crisp in handling the ball.
Dendy need to take more time in shooting free throws. He needs to change his a pproach. When you shoot 1 for 6, you might as well bank it in. he was short on there attempts that never reach.
The good news is this is all correctable. basically we are beating ourselves on offense. We need to watch the tape of the first two Big 12 games.
Can JVB still come back this year? CB needs the help to get open.
We need answers!!!!
I gave you all answers a long time ago
Simple...new coach new style, and get one from the Big12,(or even Ugh Big10) who know how the Big12 plays adn knows the conference. Till then....ISU will just be the door mat of the Big12. I see absolutely nothing positive.....except knowing at home I can turn the channel. When ISU gets off their butts and realizes that this is a sport that produces revenues, then maybe just maybe they will realize that change needs to be made before it gets worse.
If all the "experts" we have on this board had all the answers as they seem to think, there would be no complaining. Obviously, they don't know as much as they think or they wouldn't be here because they would be busy coaching their own NCAA or NBA team.
If you really think you have all the answers, here is a solution. Become a large donor and then you can complain directly to Jamie Pollard and he might just listen to you. As it is now, all of your complaints fall on deaf ears-or at least ears that also have no real influence.
Dave1964: I just saw your team list and can cut you a break for being frustrated. The Chiefs, Pacers and Cubs. I'm not making fun of you-my favorites are the St. Louis Cardinals and AZ Cardinals. STL had a long dry spell and well, we all know AZ's futility until the last couple of years.
GO CYCLONES!!!
Can you seriously still blame BVD or LE or WM?????? Teams that had players murdering each other have come back, risen from the dead, and are amongst the best today.
Yet, we sit back and blame LE, WM and BVD.
Just my opinion man. I have been behind the guy until today. Not anymore.
