Roll Call for Sunday...

Who's going? Is this a "color it cardinal" event?

I will be there... First time attending an ISU wrestling meet in person... anything to know?

Be ready to be loud. There will be tons of Hawks there. The energy level will be like nothing you've experienced as a spectator at a sporting event. It will be fantastic--I'm geared up and I'm not wrestling. How they keep their cool up to the event is beyond me...

Yes, it's a "cardinal" game. Be ready for noise, and some disappointed hawk fans.

Having this on the second day of shotgun season will probably hurt attenadance. I am guessing there is alot of overlap in hunters and wrastlin fans.

You should know that if an ISU guy throws a hok on his back and keeps his shoulders on the mat for the count, we get three points and then you jump up and down and go crazy. (Just joking)

They are expecting a rather large crowd from what I have heard. It is going to be loud and when ISU gets their first pin (of many) that crowd will blow the roof off of Hilton. It will definitely be one of the most intense atmospheres that you can imagine.

I hope you're just joking -- we would get 6 points. :)

I do know a little bit about scoring... Not a lot...

You are going to love watching Jake Varner. That guy gets after it like nobody else. He is going to throw the hawk wrestler around like a rag doll for the entire match if he doesn't pin him first. You will be impressed with him and his technique for sure. I haven't seen anybody do ankle pick takedowns like he does since Chris Bono. It is hilarious when he catches someone with one of them. Just wait and see.

I'm both excited and nervous for the Iowa meet. I've never wrestled so don't consider myself an expert but really appreciate the toughness and talent it takes to compete at this level. You can cut the intensity with a knife it's so thick at this meet. It's the only sport other than IndyCar racing that I actually fear for the safety of the competitors. I know there are some injury questions on both teams but I think it will be a hard fought contest and may the best team win.

Agreed. I think it is just the physical nature and in most cases the brute strength of these athletes that makes it so intense to watch. There is really no other sport that totally matches not only pure one on one strength but also strategy and intelligence as well. No lead is ever safe because it only takes one slip up and it is over. Now that is intense.

Here are a couple from 2007
Jake Varner vs Phil Keddy - they are at different weights now.

Mitch Mueller vs Brent Metcalf - and they will meet again Sunday.

Wrestling, especially at the collegiate level, can be quick. You think nothing is happening, nothing is happening, and then BOOM our guy shoots in for the legs and has his opponent down. A lot of it is mental, but it's awesome to watch.

ARGH I WISH I COULD GO! Mutter mutter stupid kids' birthday parties mutter mutter.

This meet will get you jacked up. IMO, there is no other sport that will create an atmosphere like this. If you think football gets you pumped, wait til you get to Hilton, sit down and wait for the music to start playing and they start announcing the weight match ups. I can't wait, I will be in the 4th row screamin my arse off.

I'm there, 3rd row. And yeah... you've never seen an atmosphere like this before. Everyone will be JUST BARELY restraining themselves by the time the thing starts. Yes, there will be lots of Hawks. Yes, there will be more Cyclones.

One thing I love about these matchups is that wrestling fans, by and large, are very educated about the sport (even if that's the only thing the Hawks are educated on). Most of the folks at the meet will know their stuff and they enjoy watching the sport for what it is. It's refreshing to see.

friend works at the ticket office and she said that there wasn't not many tickets left
