New top 5 (just released)

How the hell does a team that SQUEEEEEKed by a team that is ranked around 50th, in the last 2 seconds and didn't score a TD until the last 2 seconds, deserve to move UP in the freakin' polls. This iowa team has gotten every break and week after week squeeks by woeful or overrated teams and keeps moving up. What a joke. Sooner or later their **** poor excuse for an offense has to be their undoing, right?

Complain much?

Not good. How do they pass them? They lost to a mediocre Washington team. They played close games with OSU and ND, both mediocre teams. I just think sooner or later, when the situation is right, such as last year, one of these teams needs to have a shot. Remember, Utah rolled Bama last year after they played Florida very closely.

I think they lose to OSU, however, winning is winning. What is Ole Miss ranked? That was a close game for most of the game. Iowa is unbeaten and therefor deserves to be where they are. Until they get beaten they will continue to be right there. I do think that when they lose they will drop big time.

The day their offense does them in, will be the day that ruins it. But since it hasn't happened yet, what can you do? Alabama had to block a field goal at HOME to win against TENNESSEE, who is no better than MSU. Iowa needed a TD to win, both in the final seconds. What's the difference? They both made the plays needed to get the W, which is important. The fact that each were 2 point wins does not matter one lick. If that mattered, Texas should've jumped Bama since they won by 34.

With those other 3 teams schedules and their Conference Championship games, there is a REALLY good chance of seeing Iowa in the National Title Game. THey just have to beat OSU and they are in IMO.

Don't really understand how the changes in rankings correlate to what happened this weekend, but then again I don't really understand the algorithms the computers use.

If Iowa wins out, they will play for the national title. (Texas will have a loss against ISU in Big 12 Championship game).

My Grandmother said it best....."All the skill in the world can't be Sh#@ A&& luck" (she was quite the card player).

Just looked at the breakdown, Iowa has a perfect score in the computer ranking. No doubt they play for the national title if they win out.

I don't think USC will get past Oregon at Oregon.....and I say that as kind of a USC fan. I just don't think SC is as strong as everyone thinks they are this year. No way should Oregon State have given them the game they just did in LA.

Iowa has strength of schedule

Penn St road game
Iowa St road game
Wisconsin road game
MSU road game
Arizona home
Mich home

Who has played and won more good games than that?

No way Iowa passes Texas. If Texas beats Okie State, you can pencil in one of the spots in the NC game.

Iowa needs a log jam in the SEC, IMO.

The computers love Iowa because they aren't allowed to factor margin of victory into their formulas. The powers that be don't want computers awarding a team for running up the score to impress the computers. The problem that you end up with is when a team continually squeaks by, all the computers see is a win. Meanwhile human voters can see the difference. If you look at Jeff Sagarin's page he also has a formula that takes margin of victory into account. The hawks are #11 in that one.

If Iowa wins out, and their opponents keep winning, they could definitely pass Texas.

Road wins at Wisconsin, Penn State, and Michigan State will do that for you - one thing you have to keep in mind is that the computers don't account for margin of victory, which is a big reason why 5 of the 6 computers that go into the BCS rankings have Iowa at #1. For comparisons sake, Texas is 5th. That win at ISU is also looking better and better each week as ISU improves.

It also helps Iowa that their schedule to date is 18 games over .500, while Cincy and Boise's are 21-29 and 23-28, respectively.
