New top 5 (just released)

I heard on the radio last week that Idiot Jim Walden is voting Iowa #1 in his vote because he thinks they are the best team. Why the hell do they give washed up/never was coaches a vote in any sort of poll?

Just looked at the breakdown, Iowa has a perfect score in the computer ranking. No doubt they play for the national title if they win out.

Maybe. Their schedule the rest of the way (along with the national perception of the Big 10) could end up hurting them. USC plays at Oregon this weekend, while Iowa gets Indiana at home.

If both win, there isn't any way that USC doesn't jump Iowa.

If Iowa wins out, and their opponents keep winning, they could definitely pass Texas.

I expect Hawk fans to be cheering their butts off for ISU the rest of the way out, especially against Oklahoma State. Every win Arizona and Iowa State get makes Iowa's non-con schedule look better and better.

I just got done reading this thread and all I can say is omfg, Iowa really has a realistic shot at the national title. Just amazing, I seriously can't believe it but they have the "D" to pull it off and their road wins are impressive ( but not as impressive as beating Nebraska at home ) ;P

That Iowa vs. THE Ohio State will be an epic game. My gut tells me Iowa will be defeated on that day.

I think Iowa has a realistic shot at GETTING to the title game and maybe holding Florida or Alabama under 30... But they will be lucky to get 100 yards total offense against either of them.

Yes, because those are some potent offenses:skeptical:

I agree Iowa would have a tough time moving the ball against either of those defenses (as most teams would).

Regarding Walden, a couple of years ago he was the only one to vote Florida #1 prior to the BCS National Championship game. The other 100+ voted Ohio State #1. Florida destroyed Ohio State in the BCS National Championship game. Sometimes old coaches know what they are doing...

In this case, I don't think Iowa is #1.

By the way I think it's less moronic for him to vote Iowa 1st than for other voters to vote them out of the top 10.

At least he can make the case that Iowa has played a tougher schedule. What argument can be made that puts Iowa outside the top 10?

He has to vote that way or Jim Z won't let him keep his job on the "2 Guys Named Jim" show.
