Good Lord

I know, it just turns into the same tired argument that happened with the John Ameici thing. People trying to tell people what is right or wrong when they have no idea what they are talking about...

This one is a powderkeg. I respect opinions on both sides, but value my rep points to state my exact views on this issue. One note: I have read Richard Dawkins' "The God Delusion" and believe that it is a book believers and atheists alike should read.

At least myself, I will never give anyone neg rep for having an opinion/thought, especially one as vocal as this out can get. So I'm going to say this, I truly would appreciate to talk to you guys out there in CF land on this subject and hear your thoughts/ideas about it. If you don't feel comfortable or don't want to post publicly, just PM (Private Message) or email me at [email protected] . This is a subject that really interests me, and as a Catholic who advocates Gay Rights, I'd love to hear your opinions on the subject. Just contact me and I"ll get back to you ASAP.

I am of the same school of thought as you about opinions, and believe that the topics of religion, politics, etc. should be talked openly about. Many times, people cannot handle a mature discussion where opinions differ, and they react by simply not talking about it anymore. Talking is good...unfortunately, the respect factor is not there sometimes, because people believe so strongly about something, they fail to see that the other view may be valid, or at least possible. I do not give negative rep, unless someone is obviously being disrespectful, or badgering, or just downright mean.

I'm a christian, and I believe that homosexuality is wrong. But so are so many things I do in my life. I'm no better or no worse.

But since I am a christian, I've gotta say that I don't believe gay couples should be able to get married or adopt. Hate me if you want, but I'm a christian. God has written about this. And you either have to be the ENTIRE bible, or NONE of it.

Tolerance seems to be the key word today. But there is a implication that tolerance means acceptance. i do not accept homsexuality as an acceptable lifestyle and resent anyone telling me that my children need to accept it as one. While people state that it is a religious (right wing) agenda against homosexuality I believe there is an agenda to promote it as a natural relationship. I REFUSE TO ACCEPT THAT.

Well, I don't think that's necessarily true. I'm a devout catholic, and I believe (through studies) that homosexuality is something that you are born with and not learned. Just to point this out, via the Bible, God has written nothing. Technically, he can't even talk to us without our hearts and heads exploding. For this reason alone, what is to say that perhaps the angel that told the writer of the Bible didn't muddle what God had said exactly?

I do know a few homosexual individuals, and to be perfectly honest, they are some of the best christians that I have ever met. I would hope that in their final judgement that God would look beyond their sexual preference to decide if they were worthy of Heaven or Hell.

This is the reason that I advocate Gay Rights. Not really any reason besides this one that I salute it.

I see where you are coming from Sioux. I don't think that this is strictly a religious debate however. With all of the studies that I have read, I do believe that homosexuality is an inborn preference, and not learned. With your "refusal to accept that" belief, you imply to me that homosexuals have a deficiency, and that psychological/scientific studies are irrelevant.

I don't really give a rat's @$$ about any of the Saturday morning cartoons. They've been going downhill since 2000. When I have kids I'm just going to buy video's of all the old cartoons and get up at 8 AM and let my kids watch them instead of whatever garbage they have on TV then.

"Technically, he can't even talk to us without our hearts and heads exploding"

Cy 62: Could you please explain where you're coming from with this statement? I think you've got some good points made, but I'm not sure what this one is based off of.

"I would hope that in their final judgement that God would look beyond their sexual preference to decide if they were worthy of Heaven or Hell."

I believe that in our final judgement, God won't be worried about how much good or bad we have done. I don't think we can earn our way into heaven, because God is holy and perfect and our sin keeps us from that. I think God will judge us not on our works, but whether or not we have accepted Jesus' death on the cross as taking the penalty of our sins.

As far as cartoons go, I used to love Ninja Turtles, so I can't wait for the new TMNT movie to come out. Hopefully it'll still be oldschool and not all of this crappy "new" stuff.

Wow. You have some intelligent thoughts here. For the first quote you have, I think that it's in the book of Genesis. Before God and Adam successfully communicate, I believe that it is stated that God cannot directly talk to humans. That's where that one comes from. (ie: he needs an angel to speak for him. The movie Dogma illustrates this).

Secondly, I agree completely with your thoughts of God and acceptance into Heaven. I beleive that it's all about if we accept Jesus, but that it also doesn't matter if one is homosexual or heterosexual.

Uh-greed. TMNT 1 and 2 were amazing. The third one sucked, and hopefully this new one doesn't.

Have you seen the previews?? It's gonna suck, no doubt. Mostly because it looks more like a cartoon than the "cheesy" older movies. Now if they'd had the rubber suits and stuff for the new movie I'd be all for it...

From my point of view it is because the very basic building block of society is the family and intentionally introducing disorder into that building block is a recipe for further eroision. If the persons disorder was Child Molestation instead of homosexuality would you still advocate them being allowed adoption?

As far as marriage goes, I don't think something so far removed from God's law should seek a title designed by Him. of course I am so set in my ways I don't support hetero unions unless performed in God's presense i.e. I don't htink people married by a judge are truly married. I think they have a legal arrangement to derive the tax and other social benefits but are not a married couple.

Soo I guess I can take you off my list for the reception since I am leaving the country to get married on an island, and won't be having a religious ceremony. Your statement is incredibly closed minded and insulting towards anyone that does not get married in the church.
Further erosion of the family is a joke, the family unit from the 50's was a sham and was no healthier than the families today. People just didn't talk about what went on behind closed doors. Families today are strong when they stick together and take care of each other, sexual and religious preferences aside. To believe that your opinion and belief system is the only right one is arrogant, and can only be likened to extremism reminiscent of any other religious extremism.

Why is it that the Religious zealots typically have the most intolerant and bigoted opinions of any conversation?

I'm glad to see we agree on the other points but I think you're wrong here. Genesis 3 states several times that God speaks directly to Adam and Eve i.e. v.9:"Then the Lord God called to the man and said to him, 'Where are you'."

On the cartoon side of things:
Isn't there a transformers movie coming out this year too? I heard that it as well is going to be new school and not true to the old roots. I always used to love watching Beast Wars. Back in grade school I remember countless recesses playing Megatron and the other sweet characters. Oh the good times.

Regarding the new TMNT movie... it's out now. If you loved the cartoon, please do yourself a favor and go see it. Just try to remember it is a kids' movie, so don't be expecting killer dialog or anything, but the action and look of the film are absolutely breathtaking. It's very enjoyable, as long as you don't take it too seriously, which apparently all the critics did because it got killed in the reviews. I saw it last weekend and loved it.

Concerning this philosophical issue... well, technically God didn't write anything. People wrote it down, then other people translated that, then still other people edited it, removed what they didn't like, reworded what they wanted, and we currently have a plethora of versions that have been too manipulated by the hand of man to know what exactly God meant, if anything, in the first place. Our modern translations are faithful to where they came from, but that lineage is scarred and broken.
