In Memoriam: Ames Business/Restaurants

Anyone have any news about the new eating establishment they were going to put in at the Brick City Grill building on Stange Road, they had a sign up announcing it was coming but now the sign is gone.

One of the many Ames Mexican restaurants is changing location. La Casa Maya (631 Lincoln Way) is moving to the former Old Chicago building. They announced it on their Facebook page. Closing the current location July 25, opening in the new sometime in August.

I was wondering when our old building was going to get filled. Wonder if hotel owner came down on crazy rent he was charging OC.

I think there is a restaurant going in the old Es Tas location.... anyone lives there have any info on that?

Those capital gains will be fun.
Absolute tax bracket would be 20% on the gains after the step up basis. And of course that’s only when they sell. Really not a big deal. Clearing 80-100% of the value of something given to you when you might take home 60% of your pay for actual work is pretty nice.

Whenever I drove past that I always wondered how a flower shop could stay in business that long
Lots of business for a good flower shop, wedding, funerals, holiday like Memorial Day and people needing flowers for birthdays and anniversaries. They had a great location right there on the corner of Duff and Lincoln Way, fairly easy to get in and out of. You can make a nice living running a flower shop in even a lot of the smaller towns if you like doing that type of thing.

For real, now you have to trudge into Hy-vee or sams club. Sucks that its gone

Interesting, hope the city and people of Nevada can all come together and they rebuild better than before.
Not from Nevada, but live close enough that it is an option. It would take a monumental effort to make it worse than before.

Slowest service I've ever seen
If you order an ice cream cone and it's above 80 degrees, you better eat it like Joey Chestnut or you will be wearing most of it. Leave your car running with the AC on and run from the door to your car. Your car will probably be a degree or two cooler than the ice cream coming out of the "freezer".

I cannot believe the building is still standing and the roof is not at least caved in. The windows are all black and with the amount of built up grease on every surface inside that building, it had to have rolled pretty hot. Kudos to the Nevada, Maxwell and Colo fire departments.

Or maybe not - maybe they should have just contained it and, as the song goes, Let the M********ker burn.
