I'm really glad that 1SEIACLONE will not be in the running to be our next AD.

JP bought a nice home on Lake Panorama 10+/- years ago and has been looking forward to spending more time there. This retirement is by no means out of left field, he has actually been contemplating it for several years. I don't claim to know what exactly went into his decision, but getting TJ locked up for long term, setting up the football program with what we all hope is a great future under the new staff, and getting CyTown to the point where it's handed off to the developers seems like a real obvious point for him to finally be able to step away. There will never be a time when an AD doesn't have several irons in the fire, but his vision for the future of ISU is in place and he can hand off the reins.I don't have a problem just curious, something just doesn't add up. Here is a relatively young person at 61 years, no health problems which he stated, in the middle of a legacy project that he championed and spent years getting lined up and construction just stating and then hiring a new football coach and he is walking away. People in these powerful positions tend to be type A personalities and those types of people tend not to walk away and retire at the young age of 61 very often. Maybe Pollard is fed up, who knows, but something is still missing from this puzzle.
For the record, I have been to games in both Iowa City and Lincoln. And just because they continue to shoehorn fat American bodies into spaces they really can't fit doesn't mean it is the only solution. You obviously haven't been to many stadiums. All the older ones are much much tighter than the Jack. Try going to a game in Iowa City or Lincoln. You'll love your spacious accomidations after that. If people are crowding your row, get seat backs.
If I was you would know where I stood on things, which I suppose you could say the same about Pollard.I'm really glad that 1SEIACLONE will not be in the running to be our next AD.
I think he's done a great job hiring coaches and obviously knew exactly who he wanted for the next football coach so I wouldn't be surprised if he's successful, but I wish he would have got TJ to sign a much higher buyout.JP bought a nice home on Lake Panorama 10+/- years ago and has been looking forward to spending more time there. Sorry I ruffled so many feathers, but its just seemed odd to me and still does. Planning for retirement and then doing it after signing a new contract is different, but as long as he is happy, good for him.
I have gone through the reasons, not going to rehash them again. No one is saying he is not entitled to retire, or he was forced out. It will be interesting to see if he is on the committee to hire his replacement, which at other schools tends to happen. How does it seem odd? Specifically?
Were there details in the contract that said he had to stay?
Do contracts come with clauses to get out of them?
There is not going to be a committee. Cook, if he has any brains, will examine the feelings and desires of the main coaches and department heads, but he is going to bring his person in. As President, he will want someone he trusts and is comfortable with to run things so he can concentrate on running the University. Alignment is the modern term used. Cook will want to lead, not control in person.I have gone through the reasons, not going to rehash them again. No one is saying he is not entitled to retire, or he was forced out. At this point with the abundance of money the Big10 and SEC schools have, they'd just pay it, no matter how high it is. Once one of those schools finds their "guy" they get ahold of their donors and make it happen.I think he's done a great job hiring coaches and obviously knew exactly who he wanted for the next football coach so I wouldn't be surprised if he's successful, but I wish he would have got TJ to sign a much higher buyout.
Input from FB, MBB, both wrestling programs. WBB Bill has a lot of institutional knowledge but his input should be minimal a program that bleeds red and has underachieved for a decade. The rest of the sports hopefully get to survive. There is not going to be a committee. You bring up a non-business point, the five-year contract extension. Wendy did that as a favor to him so that he knew where he would be whether there was a good relationship with the president or not. That is a common courtesy in this environment. A five-year contract does not mean anything as it relates to retirement decisions. This is not about me, and I didn't sign a new 5 year contract last year. So why do you keep wanting to bring me and when I retired into the discussion? Listening to the instant reaction pod cast, it makes its sounds that they were hearing rumors that Pollard was getting ready to go, but also they stated something about the interaction with the new president.
In the end it doesn't matter, just strange, sorry for me pointing that out.
Wow - Mary Greeley an anchor?? Lol You are negative on something you obviously know nothing about.I agree with pretty much all of this.
I'm also skeptical of CyTown. I just don't think Ames is big enough and busy enough to support a Power and Lightesque entertainment area. And, I thought I heard Mary Greeley was going to be an anchor... What does a medical clinic have to do with an entertainment area? I hope it works out and I get to enjoy it someday but I'm not optimistic.
Read the press release again. Wow. The structure in place is a great step for both sides and it's pretty normal in this situation.I don't have a problem just curious, something just doesn't add up. Pollard seemed to have no problem spilling the beans when he was complaining about players transferring out of the university, or holding a press conference to complain about NIL and the B10 and SEC, and a variety of other topics he has bought up over the past 22 years. But questioning why he is leaving now is off the table? If there was a plan in place, then why did ISU not do like Iowa did and hire a person as the asst. AD and allow them to learn the ins and outs of the job while the current AD is still there? In his statement he said he would be here until the end of June or leaving after a new AD is hired. So which is it, is he staying till June or when the new person comes on board?
Jamie is in good health now, but he had a heart attack in 2015 and testicular cancer in 2021. He and Ellen are fully empty nesters with their youngest, James, now working as the video coordinator for the UNI basketball team. I cannot fault the guy for handing off his work and looking to enjoy retirement while he still has his health.I don't have a problem just curious, something just doesn't add up. By all rights, the heart attack should have killed him. Had he not been at a huge track meet with a half dozen Athletic Trainers and UNIs Head of Athletic Training within 15 feet of him, he'd have died.Jamie is in good health now, but he had a heart attack in 2015 and testicular cancer in 2021. Also, James beat cancer as an infant, and iirc, was not supposed to live past age 4. I am also skeptical about CyTown but I am hopeful. Lincoln has a similar, smaller, district. Lincoln is substantially larger than Ames but if you assume Ankeny and even Des Moines are sort of, kind of, part of the population area it looks better. It is a really short walk to all of Jack Trice, Hilton and CY Stephens. There isn't anything similar nearby.I agree with pretty much all of this.
