You obviously haven't been to many stadiums. All the older ones are much much tighter than the Jack. Try going to a game in Iowa City or Lincoln. You'll love your spacious accomidations after that. If people are crowding your row, get seat backs.

He probably thinks, man if JP retired 6 months or so sooner, I’m most likely still at Wazzu.
I guess it must not really bother people that one of most important persons at the university just up and retired. I mean this person not only hires and fires the coaches, but charts the path of the athletic program for not only today, but far into the future, but it's ok, stop asking questions.
Why are you describing it as “just up and retired”?
This is hardly out of the blue. JP is archaic, not apt for today’s college athletics. He’s also retirement age.
I'm not sure how it bothers people that a 61 year old millionaire would retire.
Especially in this position during the current era.

He did sign a 5 year contract extension last year so there was certainly an element of surprise that it happened now even with the transition from WW to Cook and given that the current chaos existed when that extension was signed.
My only comment is that I keep seeing all these references to retiring "out of the blue". It may have been out of the blue to us fans, but that doesn't mean it was out of the blue to those that really need to know. I find it hard to believe that a man whose job has been dependent on communication for the past 21 years wasn't communicating that this was a possibility.

Agree. I’m sure he’s more than comfortable, but walking away from making $2200/day is impressive.
This is not about me, and I didn't sign a new 5 year contract last year. So why do you keep wanting to bring me and when I retired into the discussion? Listening to the instant reaction pod cast, it makes its sounds that they were hearing rumors that Pollard was getting ready to go, but also they stated something about the interaction with the new president.
In the end it doesn't matter, just strange, sorry for me pointing that out.
I agree with pretty much all of this.
I'm also skeptical of CyTown. I just don't think Ames is big enough and busy enough to support a Power and Lightesque entertainment area. And, I thought I heard Mary Greeley was going to be an anchor... What does a medical clinic have to do with an entertainment area? I hope it works out and I get to enjoy it someday but I'm not optimistic.
His retirement had been talked about as a possibility for a long time. We have no idea what he told his bosses, you say he just up and quit. He gave nearly a year heads up. This isn’t some huge surprise.
And did the contract say he had to stay at ISU?
I think there's just a bone to pick/grievence type of thing here.
So if it was not a huge surprise by many, than why is this a huge deal in the news? For the general public and many in the media, it sure sounds like it was a surprise.
It means nothing to me, I have no ax to grind here, just seems strange. This is huge announcement for the university, not some average person retiring, but a person that will led the university athletic department for years.

Oh wait he forgot to post on CF 3 years ago that he was planning to retire in the next 3 years and ask CF members for their thoughts on the proper way to do it.
The fact that some non-important people not in the Atheltic Department think he owes them an explanation about why and when he was going to retire is pretty bold of them.
