Pickleball as I've gotten older has become more fun. I need the smaller court! LOL. Central Iowa has lots of options. If you haven't played check out the rules too!

Wonder how long this fad will last. Our town just put one in the park, never see anyone using it, unlike the old volleyball court that was there, or the basketball court.

No.

It killed an ISU basketball player.

Jeff Branstetter, played for Maury John, tore his achilles tendon the first time he ever played pickle ball. About 6 months ago. He told me that was the first major injury he ever suffered.

They have installed pickleball courts all over Ankeny and they are stuffed to the gills 100% of the time. My soon to be sophomore in high school goes over there a lot with a big group and it’s not uncommon for them to not even be able to get a court.

That situation is definitely the exception. Everywhere we've traveled, pickleball courts are used MUCH more than tennis courts.

BTW - one of the quickest ways to rile up a tennis player is to bring up pickleball. They hate it for some reason.

That's my experience too. I don't even call pickleball a fad anymore, it's here to stay. It was a 'fad', like, pre-Covid time. Years ago.

The one they put in at Gilbert is used all the time, seems like every time we drive by it for a softball game or run over to the school, someone is out there playing on it.
In Bloomfield they converted the racket ball courts at the rec into pickle ball courts so you can play both. The local pharmacy owned a vacant lot across the street from his building right by the square and put in a pickle ball court there last year. Not sure how many people use it, but it looks a lot better than the vacant lot that was there before.

I live in north ankeny and they just put in a new playground in the green space behind my house with a basketball court that also has pickleball lines on it. I've seen more people bring their own net to play pickleball on it then I have seen people play basketball. It's still pretty new so that may change.

It's really loud unfortunately. That hollow ball on wooden paddles. Fun to play annoying AF if it's near your home.
It is pretty obnoxious to be around if you aren't playing, no denying that. It's getting better with the change in paddles to softer/quieter materials instead of straight up wood, but there's still a lot of that out there today.

Just FYI, there is a little used park called Greentree on the NW side of town that usually has courts open. We walk/bike the trestle trail pretty frequently and the kids like to dip off to that park for a few. There is usually only one group, if any, using the courts. They're dedicated pickle ball courts so the nets are already there.
