***Official 2026 World Cup Thread***

I would argue soccer suffers the most for how cheap it should be.

Our kids’ rec league was $120 per year. The club team was around $200 / month. The travel is what gets you with hotels, but it’s nothing compared to what my cousin pays for baseball.

The issue is finding good coaching. Since it wasn’t popular before, there aren’t many US adults that can teach it well. Essentially it comes down to whether you have a flourishing immigrant population in your area for the quality of coaches.

Soccer is boring to those that don’t understand the strategy behind what’s going on. Hockey is the same way. If you don’t understand the movement and what teams are trying to do, then it looks very boring.

To me, baseball is the sport I find most boring to watch. But I never really got into the strategy in defensive shifts and blah blah blah. But I’m sure that a fan that gets into the strategy of how a pitcher breaks down each at bat enjoys the game more.
I agree baseball is horrible

1. Field space is very limited. The clubs control basically all the field space and cities overcharge.

2. There is an over reliance on “pro” coaches who aren’t any better than some parent which drives up the costs.
$400 for two shirts and shorts, a backpack and socks isn't helping anything.

$2,400 a year per kid? What are you even paying for? That’s over 30k minimum for a team. That’s crazy.

But seriously. I've been watching more soccer then I've ever watched. The rules annoy me too. I wish they would tweak the same things you are suggesting. If not? Oh well. I won't watch again until 2030 anyway. :)
I'm with you, these games you can see the talent even if yoy don't understand it all (me) . I like BB a lot but I don't tune into the NBA till maybe the round before the conference finals. Both soccer games Sunday we fun even though I don't understand soccer, but I could tell the skill was there.

If you don’t watch soccer, don’t like soccer and don’t know the rules why do you even care?
It's called international competition. Nobody gives a damn about figure skating, track and field events, and numerous other sports 99% of the time. You could paint flags on a bunch of turtles shells and put them on a race track and people would watch.

You just watch these things to complain about what you don’t like about them? Weird dude.

Because it's something to argue about and people love to argue.

And find things to all the sudden care about like the random sports they see every 4 years in the Winter Olympics.

That $30K covers entry into something like 8 tournaments (that don’t charge extra for admission to watch BTW), coaches, and refs for games. What non-rec league sport is cheaper?
