••• 2026 Official Chicago Cubs Thread •••

I’m a pretty big fan of Alex Cohen. Boog has the better baseball/announcer “voice” but Cohen actually shows some homerism that Boog lacks quite often for a team broadcast. And I’m a big Boog fan for basketball and when he does national stuff

Edit: oh and also it seems like the Cubs win more when Cohen’s on the call so I’m probably a little biased
Seriously after this series. Boog and JD need to go bye bye. We gotta keep this MoJo.

I think if I'm the FO, I'm prioritizing Joe Ryan this month. I'm imagining a 2027 rotation of

Skubal ($35 M) via FA
Ryan ( $13 M) via trade

If you fix David Peterson, maybe he'll give you a low cost one year prove it deal.

Cabrera ($7M)
Steele ($10 M)

Brown/Wiggins/Rea fight for the 5th spot if you don't sign 3.

Gives you a salty rotation and bullpen.

I think we deal for either Peralta or Holmes as well. I don't think either will break the bank, but they'll just be rentals and not impact the 2027 season.

Would be nice to get 2 if not all 3 against the Cards this weekend. Would like to see them start fading a bit in the wild card standings so they don't get the itch to possibly be buyers at the deadline. They have far exceeded expectations so far during a "rebuild" season and the story was always their pitching would not be good enough to stay in it but so far it has.

Hopefully we create separation while they stay in the hunt for the 3rd WC so the do get the itch to buy.

Not sure who they have to sell, but I'd rather they subtract from the farm system than add to it.

Wouldn't be surprised if Shaw or Ramirez end up being included in any deal for a quality arm. Really only need one as a utility IF and Conforto can cover the corner OF spots if Shaw is dealt.

Just don't see much trade value among I-Cubs talent. So Shaw/Ramirez plus top low system players might be what it takes.

Also think Hoyer should get creative to find a RH hitting 1B to PH/spell Busch. Also injury protection if Cubs are serious about playoff run.

Yeah the I Cubs prospects are not going to net you much right now. Either they are not big enough prospects or some are/have been injured this year. Rojas is probably going to be in demand but it's going to have to be a big trade to let a 21 year old AA SS that is your top prospect go right now.

Not sure they will go out and get a guy to spell Busch as they technically have Tyler Austin for that barring he's healthy at some point to actually play in the 2nd half. Haven't seen any new updates on him but thought he was originally going to be back sometime in July? I think they may have given Johnathan Long a look by now if they were wanting an internal RH 1B on the bench. Busch is hitting LHP at a lot better clip than he has in the past now that he's playing nearly every day. I posted his splits a few weeks back but if you take a look at them compared to last 2 season they are much improved.

Cards if they start selling will move Nootbaar and pitchers like May and O'Brian. Players that will not be around when they are ready to contend in 2028. Buying now would be stupid for the Cards.
