••• 2026 Official Chicago Cubs Thread •••

I’m a pretty big fan of Alex Cohen. Boog has the better baseball/announcer “voice” but Cohen actually shows some homerism that Boog lacks quite often for a team broadcast. And I’m a big Boog fan for basketball and when he does national stuff

Edit: oh and also it seems like the Cubs win more when Cohen’s on the call so I’m probably a little biased

If Dansby isn’t careful I might start believing in him again
It's crazy how he's top 3 on the team in HR but so bad outside of the random power bursts he can have. Happ is the same way but bats just a little bit better averages. Dude is definitely elite with the glove at SS which is his saving grace.

Of course the Cardinals and Brewers are likely going to win tonight too so no ground gained in the division standings but this is a big game for wild card tiebreakers to get.

Maybe I'm missing something, but curious Counsell pitched Assad tonight instead of starting over next couple days. My assumption is he wants Boyd, Rea, Imanaga stretched out a bit over next 10 days. And pitching 2-3 innings tonight probably still keeps Assad available on Sat, when they go with opener?

ESPN has:
  • Wed: Rea
  • Thu: Off day
  • Fri: Petersen
  • Sat: TBD
  • Sun: Imanaga
  • Mon: Off day

He can basically run a 4 man rotation until the break with guys on regular rest because of the off days and use Assad to piggyback off the starter every 3 days or so if he needs to.

But they play 6 straight days from July 7 to July 12, so will definitely need a 5 man over that period.

Agree it's probably about using Assad as a relief inning eater in case Peterson (Fri) and Wilson/Wicks (Sat) can't go 5 innings. Probably can bring Assad back Saturday.

Cubs relief staff gets a break with Thu/Mon off days.

you want to know how little faith they have in happ from the right side of the plate... that base running gimmick says a lot.

and as i say that happ has made 2 nice plays in the outfield.

Looks like most of the people sitting behind the plate moved to the inside club area or just left. Can't say I blame them, looks hotter than hell sitting there in the full sun.
