Under the radar connections to Iowa

Haven't read through the entire thread so my apologies if this has already been mentioned, but the most influential singing duo in music history got it's start down in Shenandoah IA back in 1945 on a little radio station called KMA.

They were the hottest music act in the world in the late 50's and changed the course of modern music.

Tiny little Norway, Iowa has produced a total of three MLB players, Hal Trotsky, Bruce Kimm and Mike Boddicker.

Funny thing is there are a few places around Iowa that are tiny and have produced a lot of pro ball players. Parkersburg I think is on that list or some small town out in East Iowa. Norwalk has grown now but they had a ton of famous people from when it was just a small town. Matt Dermody, Joel Hanrahan, Jason Mamoa, Brandon Route. Pretty crazy that small towns in Iowa produce more NFL and MLB players than our big cities

Trey Anastasio’s (Phish) mom is from Iowa which I didn’t know until about a year ago. His grandfather was a sports caster at WHO and succeeded Ronald Reagan. There’s a YouTube clip from his show at Val Air last year where he shares the story with the audience.

I don’t know what towns, but Aplington Parkersburg had I think three NFL guys, and not one of those deals with a family with like three athletic freak brothers. Kampman and Jared DeVries that played at Iowa and Brad Meester that played at UNI.
