Latest ESPN article will have you throwing up in your mouth
The thing that I thought was odd was the article relying on Rocco for much of the story! I would prefer to read comments made by more of the people he didn't know until accepting that job. I mean...sure they aren't going to be critical but has Rocco ever made a negative/controversial remark? Just who he is but that guy is the eternal optimist!

The off-season coach profile puff pieces aren't meant to be critical. It's PR parading as journalism. No one on the staff or team was going to say anything bad about the new coach, and even if they did, the author was never going to include those quotes.

He and i had a dumbing war at one point. i actually thoroughly enjoyed it, until i realized that i cant compete with him, as i have a job and a life
Dumbing wars are dumb. I stop at 500 dumbed posts, I don’t have the time for more than that.

That’s disingenuous

They have title expectations, but they also gave Franklin 12 years. And if not for a horrible record in big games, he’d still be there despite no title
You’re assuming Campbell will have a better record in the ‘big games’. We’ll see.

Matt Campbell will compete for National Championships at Penn State in the next 5 years.

There are reasons to think this couldn't happen. But I go along with your statement for one big fat stinking reason: Three former Iowa State head Coach have gone on to win big after leaving a successful term in Ames.

Campbell is a great coach but to be at the level some are expecting, he will have to change a lot about how he runs a program. To compete in the CFP you have to use the portal. That isn't exactly how he likes to build his program. He needs buy in and control, that's tougher when you're bringing in hired guns every year. He'll have pressure to be a big player in that market. The type of high school kids he'll be bringing in won't be the kind to sit around and wait their turn, it's going to be a totally different situation for him and his staff. Can his ego handle being forced to change?

is he deeply attached to that way of doing things or did he just do those things because he thought that was what would be most effective for building Iowa State, a school that was always going to have limited resources compared to a Penn State?

The article stated Franklin was 1-18 verses top 10 schools while at PSU, that is a pretty low bar to get over for Campbell. My question is he going to be more willing to open up the playbook now that his team is going to be more talented in most of their games then the opponent. Be more like Cignetti and just put the wood to some teams.
