••• 2026 Official Chicago Cubs Thread •••

Today is the anniversary of what is still the single highest graded pitching performance ever in MLB. Heard Kaplan say today that Kerry once told him that he's pretty sure the last pitch he threw that day was what started his elbow injury issues. One of the biggest "what ifs" in Cub history with Mark Prior being the 2nd in that contest.

Man remember before the season we were debating who would be the odd man out of the rotation when Steele returns. Since then have lost Horton, now Boyd for awhile and Steele had a setback during rehab leaving us with a rotation of Cabrera Shota Tallion Rea and Assad with Wiggins in the IL in AAA too. Hate to see where we would have to pivot to if we had another starter go down.

Same interview with Kaplan today he was talking about the need to add another top end starter and how it would come down to how much prospect capital it would take if you went all in to make a WS run. He said the supposed asking price for May at the deadline last year was Shaw Horton and Wiggins.and was similar for Gore too.from people who he talked to. The point was if we wanted Alcantara from the Marlins it likely will be a steep price like May and Gore would have been last year as its usually not about money but the prospect package when dealing the top available players.

I’m thinking we are going to have to trade Alacantra for a solid starter
Probably going to.take a lot more than him if you want someone that is not a back half of the rotation type of arm. Think Ramirez, Conrad, Rojas kind of prospects and likely won't be just 1 that is in a package for a "solid" starter. Have a bad feeling too many teams are still going to be hanging around the wild card that will likely drive up the prices for pitching at the deadline.

We have been able to do it but feels like we are always coming from behind. Be nice to get a lead a bit more.

Love the Jaguar but I think he’s expendable. Guessing we see some type of Shaw Conforto platoon next year at one of the corners. He’s been tearing it up but carrying a 40% K rate last I checked.
