KXNO Sports Fanatics

Serious question... what do you like about them? None of them have any sources, they don't break news... what exactly is the appeal?
How many sports talk shows end up breaking news?

I like listening to Miller and Condon with their variety of guests and they know Iowa and Iowa State are what works here locally. Even during the summer they'll have folks on talking about any football/basketball news etc for the local schools.

I like the gambling talk. They get national guests that will still talk about our local teams. They talk about sports, not BBq grills or something else random

Miller has always had a solid lineup of guests but the other shows are complete a$$.
My problem with Miller is the hyperbole - good and bad. When Iowa State got smoked at AFH and lost at Cincy...in JANUARY...they were basically going to be a 6-8 seed with zero chance of making it out of the first weekend. Then they beat KU and Houston at home, and their seed doesn't matter - they are one of the 4 best teams in basketball and will be in Indianapolis. I get that it might drive ratings, but (to use his favorite saying) MY GAWD. Can we have a little perspective, please?

My problems with Condon:

Hawk fan - that should be it, but let's keep going.

I believe he buys all the spots for their show through his TC Sports, LLC and then sells the spots. I'm sure it is fine and legal, and there's probably a little money to be made on the spread between what KXNO charges and what he can charge, but I picture TC Sports, LLC being born at a lunch meeting with TC and Rush Nigut at the Chicken Coop while the guys from Wolf roofing were laying shingles on his house. Just has a "Marty" feel to me. Probably not fair as Marty was / is the lowest of the low, but my mind just goes there for some reason. Then, any discussion of a negative story about Iowa State and his voice drops 2 octaves like he is sad for his little disadvantaged friend.

Shows with actual sources absolutely can.

I just guess I never got the infatuation with the local shows. They are all extremely limited in their actual knowledge of how things work and the games they cover.

I like the local shows because it's local. I listen to DP for national and I enjoy him alot, its gonna suck when he retires. I dont care much about the NFL and NBA which is all the national shows talk about. Which is what they have to do.

The local shows aren't groundbreaking but they don't have to be.

what sports radio shows do you listen to that break news? You can't say CycloneFanatic or something like that since that is what they do.

Local shows are by far superior to national shows. I get what's relevant in my market etc...
The only national show I can stomach is Dan Patrick.

This is spot on. I don't mind Miller at all, but this is definitely accurate, and fairly annoying.

Where is old Marty now days?

I ran into him at an airport bar in DFW on my way home from the Big 12 CCG in '24.

Didn't realize who it was until I got up to leave and thanked him for buying me a beer. He said his name was "Marty" and suddenly the light bulbs started exploding in my brain.

I maintain I'm the only person to come out of an interaction with Marty Tirrell money ahead.

I don't agree with them on it but am not surprised by this. I mean they are called pretty much every name in the book on here so I don't expect them to have much love for this site. Miller did admit he frequents here and Condon said he goes to the other Cyclone sites.
In their defense, this site is a bit off the rails. Touch grass, people.

Stockholm Syndrome is real...

You are force fed idiots who have no idea what they are talking about and were given the job simply because they agreed to work for free. Just because its "local" doesn't mean its any good.

Hell the host people lamented and wanted to come back at the start of the thread was the ****** janitor.

Everything has to be 100% ISU and sunshine and rainbows for some of you people to be happy about the ISU coverage... and a sports station in a city with multiple fan interests will simply never provide that for you. I'm glad you've found a fansite (here) where you and me can have that, though. (Seriously)

Indicted again in October of 2025. Looks like basically the same stuff he was doing previously. How he finds "investors" is beyond me.

You came out money ahead...for now. But Marty plays the long game. Buy you a beer in 2024. Reconnect with you this summer where, after he breaks the ice asking you to recommend a good place to have electronic monitoring ankle bracelets removed, he will dazzle you with the details of a deal so good, you can't afford to pass it up. You are on the fence a bit, but he brings up the beer he bought you in Dallas and reels you in. I've seen it a million times.

OT but another one his OG Danette's left recently in Seton. Maybe they are leaving before Dan leaves.
