Two of Iowa State's games for the upcoming 2026 season have been moved to Friday night.Iowa State will now play at BYU on Oct. 9 and at Central Florida on Nov. 20.

Friday, Oct. 9 – Iowa State at BYU

The Big 12 Conference, alongside its television partners ESPN and FOX, has announced nine football games to be played on Fridays and select weekdays during the week for the 2026 season. The selections include eight Friday games and a Thanksgiving match-up on Thursday, Nov. 26. Specific network designations and kick-off times for these games will be announced at a later date.

I don't love that we are getting delt two short turnaround weeks though. Everything gets shortened plus we have to go on the road.

2 Friday games in one year! These are presumably night games, so hopefully, most of our remaining games wiil end up as afternoon kickoff times. Not sure that actually factors into those decisions.

Looking at the other games, Mizzou-KU on a Friday night is an interesting choice.

Based on the responses so far I’m definitely in the minority here but I loved when we had Thursday/Friday home games

The following schools all avoid weekday conference games. I haven't checked if they are already playing a non-conference weekday game otherwise.

Arizona State
Kansas State
Oklahoma State
Cincinnati

The following schools get two conference weekday games:

Iowa State (neither at home)
TCU (neither at home)
Texas Tech (both at home, but one is Thanksgiving)
Houston (neither at home)
UCF (both at home)

As an out of state ST holder, I am glad they are away. Thursdays are tough, but Fridays are manageable.
