I know, I know, but seriously… Bring Back Baseball

These threads are so damn dumb. Should be auto ban for even bringing it up.
Yes, ban anybody who wants Iowa State to have baseball. Ban anybody who doesn’t accept as gospel that ISU can’t have nice things.

There’s a difference between listening to what he says as his perspective and listening to what he says like it’s the laws of physics or something.

And there's a big difference between playing Athletic Director Tycoon and actually trying to operate a competitive athletic department with one of the smallest budgets of any school in the power conferences. One of these days you'll catch up on the fact that NIL has completely thrown a wrench in how things are operated and come to realize that things that theoretically could be afforded 5 years ago with the right donors are completely out the window today, especially if we have any plans in being competitive in any of the sports that remain.

Our conference records in the 5 seasons that we played in the Big 12 were 6-21, 10-18, 2-28, 7-23, and 11-15. That's 36-105...25.5%...in a sport where they always say even the worst teams win 1/3rd of their games.

I just wish people had some basic sense of how money works. That’s all
Totally agree. We’re all silly to not realize that we’ve already seen the pinnacle of what can be achieved at Iowa State. The financials are only going to be more difficult going forward, so fans who want us to go to a Final Four or make a CFP are basically silly 16 year olds asking for a BMW because they don’t understand how the world works.

Except the way you want JP to run things, it's taking the dreams of going to a Final Four or making the CFP and transforming them into dreams of going to the CIT (maybe?) and make a 6-6 caliber bowl game once a decade (maybe?).

Just face it - you pine for a return of the dark ages of ISU athletics all because you're one of like 5 people that want a sport that nobody else gives a damn about.

Oh please, I am so done with arguments that it’s impossible to do at ISU what is somehow possible at hundreds of other universities. Why are we all so convinced that ISU’s position is so uniquely bad?

Those hundreds of other universities have had it. They aren’t adding it new. It costs even more to make the facilities for it now, and who’s spending that money on something that doesn’t make a profit? Why waste the money, just to lose more money? Where’s the money coming from? Taking it away from football or basketball?

We’re one of only like four power conference team that don’t have it. Over 300 Division 1 teams have baseball. North Dakota State does.
You know of any billionaires in our fandom ready to write massive checks?

I hate that i had to use AI but i asked it how many schools make a profit off baseball:

I am willing to bet Iowa State would not make money like K state and Kansas.
So basically it’s either have wrestling or baseball based on those numbers.

I’m one of the weirdos that watches college baseball. I’m watching UNC - Charlotte right now. Watched some Georgia Tech a few days ago. Watching a kid from Dowling play for UNC now.

College baseball at ISU simply would be the most expensive sport to operate outside of the big 2, and there would be a big investment.

ISUs baseball field, notice I said field and not stadium is like a class 1A facility. The field itself was nice, but the facility is a joke.

If I had a couple $100 m to throw around I’d love to build an ISU baseball program. But man it’s not a wise use of resources for ISU.

“No, we can’t!”

The official cheer of the Jamie Pollard University Cyclones.

(a) It wasn’t JP that cancelled baseball.

(b) Even with all their money, the traditional B1G is no good at baseball. Most years they were a one bid league. Adding USC, UCLA, Oregon will upgrade their perception, but the traditional B1G is the MAC of baseball. Sounds like you hang out with hok fans that actually think they are any good.

(c) It is a stupid idea to try and bring back baseball.

JP didn’t get rid of it, but one of the first things he did was drill into everybody’s head that it was silly to want to bring it back.

It has a ton to do with Pollard. He’s got our whole damn fan base thinking about our program from an accountant’s point of view and looking down their nose at anybody whose first question isn’t “how are we going to pay for that?”
Pollard isn’t the one who cancelled the program.
