**** Official 2026 MBB Spring Transfer Portal Thread ****

I get the vibes that Matt and JP were not seeing eye to eye as much. It seems to me that both Matt and Pollard knew it was coming to an end soon, like a couple gearing up for divorce.

IOW, he's too good for ISU? Eff that.
Sorry, but we all knew he was gonna leave. A blue blood like Penn State has 10 times more money, easier to recruit, a chance to possibly play for a national championship. It's not an insult, It's just a fact. Ames will never compete in money, and I think the big 12 is gonna step back and be a second tier football school because of money. You can make the argument it already has. In the last few years the big 12 is fourth of the big four conferences.

Does Mason Williams slot in at the 1, 2 or 3? Or wherever he is needed? Seems like we need an experienced 4 most of all, and an experienced guard 2nd most (the type depending on where Williams is likely to be).
Don't have any insight, but would love someone in the know to provide some commentary on him and how or if he still fits in the future plans at ISU. Seems like aside from an update in mid February about him being back at practice but not playing to preserve the medical redshirt, it has been crickets about him. Leads one to think it wouldn't be too crazy to hear his name as a portal entry sooner than later.

I like this kid as a Heise replacement. Good ball handler (giggity) and passer, really good rebounder for a guard, plays tough defense. As a shooter he is very streaky. He'll light it up for a few weeks then go cold for a few weeks.

Toure, Batemon, Williams, Wiggins, Carson and Gray would be an excellent back court, imo. I doubt we play all 6 of those guys though.
I don't think Williams will be a cyclone next year. There's smoke out there he could be following Blount to SD

Just watched his highlight reel this morning. That would stink to lose him, seems like his scoring ability is a clear need next year. And the fact that he included defensive plays is awesome. I would assume we can pay better than SD and visibility would be way better.

Aren't there actually 2 "pots"?

1. Revenue Sharing - $21M This is the one that Pollard controls and allocates to different teams.
2. External NIL - This is all the outside stuff.

I thought the big sticking point was that the Athletic Department only had enough reserves to fund the Revenue Sharing for 2 or 3 years. When athletic programs came to the Athletic Department/University support for External NIL commitments, Pollard said no, all Athletic Department efforts needed to be towards fully funding Revenue Sharing.

I speculate that 1 of 2 things happened. This is pure speculation on my part.
1. Cook came in and said the University would cover any gaps in the Revenue Sharing pot. With that guarentee, the Athletic Department and University could help pursue the external NIL opportunities.
2. Cook came in and said the University itself would help teams and players pursue external NIL opportunities. In this situation, the Athletic Department may not be able to fully fund Revenue Sharing, but the support of the University to pursue those NIL opportunities more than makes up for it.

Either way, coaches are probably happy and Pollard is probably happy.

What is the point of bringing it a guy who you would knowingly not play due to a hip injury if there was no understanding of a multi year commitment (which i know isn’t technically allow)

Maybe he hasn't recovered as expected from the surgery
They've had a few months to scout him in practice

I know nothing on this, but I'm guessing #1 happened. Through most of history, sports cost Universities money, but they were happy to fund them because it helped enrollment and added to the overall college experience. Only recently did most athletic departments break even and become self sustaining. It's not that crazy for the University to help fund athletics again, at least for a while until they can get the budget squared away and get some debt off the books from various projects that were built over the last 15-20 years. Many other ADs have already been bailed out by their University too, so it's not like we'd be the only ones doing this.

They didn't know he wouldn't play when they signed him.

I asked the same question as above at the time it came out he was going to miss the season. And multiple posters said this was already known and he’ll be ready for ‘26-‘27.

Now my confusion on why we took him has returned if he’s transferring
